Very smart sci-fi thriller!!3/14/2000
This is one of those movies that starts off a little slow but as it progresses so does the challenge to figure out what is actually going on. The visuals are excellent. If you like your sci-fi or dramas to be intellectual in nature like Gattaca, then you will be enthralled by this movie. It's by no means The Matrix, which is by far superior or Dark City which is better yet, but it will entertain you all the way through.
Cool mystery flick!3/5/2000
There are 3 movies that came out within a year or so of each other that have a lot of similarities--DARK CITY, MATRIX and THIRTEENTH FLOOR. The all combine sci-fi, mystery and action but each had a different focus. DARK CITY had very storng mystery elements, medium sci-fi, low action (plus a medium level of horror too!). MATRIX started out with a high level of mystery ('What is all this weird stuff happening to Keanue Reeves for????') but it dropped to 0 mystery after he took the pill. MATRIX's big deal was sci-fi and HIGH action content. THIRTEENTH FLOOR is a mystery film, pure and simple. There is a strong sci-fi presence in the film, but the movie is more about solving crimes, figuring out hwo to trust, understanding people's motives, etc. So while mnay people compare it to THE MATRIX because they both involve cyber-settings, don't come to the 13th FLOOR expecting a sci-fi flick. BTW, AWESOME SETS!!!
The story while good was fairly predictable. The movie was saved by the stunning visuals like the edge of the world. Anyway if you normally think ahead of the story while watching a movie this one will bore you and leave you very little in the way of surprises.
great special effects11/17/1999
leaves you wondering where you really exist
This movie can be enjoyed by the full range- whether you know little or nothing about computers, or you are such an expert that you can understand the matrix's existence in real life- this one will make you think so hard it will give you a headache. Top-n
Movie was great10/10/1999
Lotta people say that it's similar to the matrix. It is, but where the matrix goes one direction, this one goes another. It's all about jacking in, but whereas the matrix has a rather simplified plot about man overcoming the 'viruses' in the computer, this movie has twists and turns. Great movie for everyone. It's well worth your money.
