Movie was great

by Mark on 10/10/1999

Lotta people say that it's similar to the matrix. It is, but where the matrix goes one direction, this one goes another. It's all about jacking in, but whereas the matrix has a rather simplified plot about man overcoming the 'viruses' in the computer, this movie has twists and turns. Great movie for everyone. It's well worth your money. Read More

ReviewSource Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide
Review Scientists create a virtual-reality 1937 L.A. so realistic that even the "inhabitants" have their own minds and don't realize they and everything around them exist only in a computer... then murder links the worlds of the created and the creators. Well-produced sci-fi in film noir style is interesting throughout, but too talky, and the basic idea is familiar.

Review If The Thirteenth Floor had been able to sustain the awe of [main character] Douglas' first virtual experience, it could have been a sci-fi masterwork. But at the midway point, the plot shifts and the link between the film and the audience is broken; the metaphorical "man behind the curtain" is revealed and the fantasy is gone. Spiraling from fantasy thriller to cliche-riddled whodunnit, the plot quickly unravels to a predictable ending. The film's couple of twists and eyefuls of visuals make it entertaining fun, but it leaves one's intellect and imagination unfulfilled...
