Product Overview

Imagine a killer who thinks "What is the worst thing anyone has ever done?" -and then does something far worse!

Now imagine four women-a police detective, an assistant D.A., a reporter, and a medical examiner-who pursue this killer by sidestepping their bosses and giving each other a hand.

The combination adds up to the most exciting thriller series debut since Sue Grafton's A Is for Alibi. The four women who call themselves the Women's Murder Club develop lifelong bonds as they pursue a killer whose twisted imagination has stunned an entire city. Working together, they track down the most terrifying and unexpected killer ever-before a shocking resolution that will leave readers breathless.

From the Publisher

1st to Die is a dazzlingly powerful new thriller by master suspense novelist James Patterson, the #1 bestselling author of Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.

Four women-four friends-share a determination to stop a killer who has been stalking newlyweds in San Francisco. Each one holds a piece of the puzzle: Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector in the San Francisco Police Department, Claire Washburn is a medical examiner, Jill Bernhardt is an assistant D.A., and Cindy Thomas just started working the crime desk of the San Francisco Chronicle.

But the usual procedures aren't bringing them any closer to stopping the killings. So these women form a Women's Murder Club to collaborate outside the box and pursue the case by sidestepping their bosses and giving one another a hand.

The four women develop intense bonds as they pursue a killer whose crimes have stunned an entire city. Working together, they track down the most terrifying and unexpected killer they have ever encountered-before a shocking conclusion in which everything they knew turns out to be devastatingly wrong.

Full of the breathtaking drama and unforgettable emotions for which James Patterson is famous, 1st to Die is the start of a blazingly fast-paced and sensationally entertaining new series of crime thrillers.

Author Info
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.
Praise
"1ST TO DIE follows the Patterson formula for success: short chapters, likable characters and graphic violence. This one has screenplay written all over it, but it delivers a sharp punch."
"This creeped-out murder mystery...features a fairly clever plot with enough last-minute revelations to keep you guessing (or at least, going)..."

In FIRST TO DIE, the club is on the trail of a murderer who kills couples on their wedding nights and sexually molests the brides' corpses.
