Customer Reviews of 3.5 Inch Single Bay NAS/ Hard Drive Enclosure
Just ok for small file sharing.12/31/2010
Pros: This is probably the best NAS enclosure for the price on the market today(had to give it a couple of stars for that). It does have a quite few useful features, like FTP server, simple BitTorent download server, Samba Server and a few other. For complete features list check manufacturers web site neo2tech. Cons: The large drawbacks for this device: 1. It only support ethernet network protocol of 10/100Mbps. No Gigabit network here, so all of your transfers going to be dead slow. 2. No NFS server here ether. NFS provides much faster transfers then SMB. So if you plan to store HD video/movies on this device - forget about it. It is only good for regular SD content storage with low bit-rate. 3. It does hang sometimes requiring hard reset, which for NAS drives is not acceptable. Like if you are somewhere away from your house and want to access your files through FTP server, you just might find out that your NAS is frozen dead. 4. Setup could not be easy for a novice user. Other thoughts: I can not recommend this device for anybody, save your money for something more reliable that has Gigabit network and NFS server.
Best network storage device ever bought11/18/2010
Price good Good looks Easy to use I am a BT/SAMBA extremest user all day every day. Now I dont have to rely on my PC to stay running all day or lag out. I really enjoy running my media files through PS3 which makes my life so much lazier... So far excellent!
NAS the way to go!11/4/2010
I am new at this NAS technology and instruction manual threw me off a bit but after emailing and calling tech support, they were outstanding. I learned how to set this baby up in about a half hour, created folders, and networked to my 4 home computers also used a network printer by plugging the printer to the USB port in back. I will never go back to regular enclosures again, this item was $50 on sale which is only about $25 difference from a regular 3.5 enclosure and the design is very nice. Tech support was very supportive and patient. Thank you ineo!
Heavy Usage Causes Failures9/30/2010
I bought this device to provide a common storage area for all of my computers (5 in total) to backup critical files. Initial setup went OK; however, the documentation that was provided is limited. General access of the NAS from each computer works as expected; however, when my backup jobs run from each of my computers, specifically my main computer, the drive fails during the backup process. By fails I mean, the drive is completely inaccessible; I cannot access it through Windows Explorer and I cannot access it throught the admin website using a browser. The only option is the cycle the power. I have emailed support and they have responded; however, no resolution to the issue yet.
NAS does not work well9/9/2010
It works well as a hard drive adapter. Although it has no fan, it is pretty cool out side of the case. Of course it is quiet. However the NAS feature works badly. It seems that I can back up files on the drive. But i cannot see any files on the drive through Windows network or linux through SMB server or FTP server. When I tried to access folders through HTTP manager, occasionally, i can see the top layer folders. But I can never see sub folders that I created. There is no way to set user's access to sub-folders due to this reason. I am returning it.
