Good value for the price6/6/2012
As other reviews state, the product is a little wobbley because it is made from light weight material but it can be reinforced to make it more sturdy. The cats love it. I sprinkled it with catnip and treats and added another mouse. They are not afraid of it now at all and I am confident it won't fall down or anything.
Stay FAR away from this cat tree3/26/2012
I purchased this cat tree understanding that it probably was not going to be a top of the line, super sturdy piece of cat furniture. What I received however was something else entirely. Technically, it does LOOK like the picture, but there are a few things that you should be aware of, and beware of, before purchasing. 1. The tree is made out of flimsy, very thin materials. The whole thing is poorly constructed and not at all up an active cat. Even propped up against a wall, it wobbles. The whole system is just cheap feeling and will not last. 2. The sisal rope is stapled on to the posts with a LOT of small staples, half of which are only half way in. The staples will come out when your cat scratches, leaving unwound rope and staples everywhere. 3. The platforms are not large enough for any cat larger than a 6 month old kitten. Any cat of size, i.e. adult, is going to have a hard time using the hammock or the top platform. 4. The center cubby is mounted on a single pole without good support; it sways and is not stable. Because of this, none of the cats are interested in hopping in even that lowest of beds. Overall, this was a mistake purchase. This cat tree will not last and will likely end up in the garbage, as I don't even feel comfortable donating it to the local cat shelter and the shipping to send it back would be exorbitant due to the weight. Stay away at all costs and spend a bit more to get something stable and usable that will last.
5 Cat household means furr will fly!12/14/2011
I purchased this as I have recently acquired 2 additional cats to my current 3 for a grand total of 5. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and the competition for space is at times frustrating for all involved (human and feline). For this product specifically I would suggest swapping the cat hammock for the shelf on the opposite side as the hammock really serves no purpose. Especially with the mouse toy hanging directly above the hammock. The hammock is not a sturdy surface for any of my cats to stand on and play with the mouse. For that matter they couldn't jump to the higher shelves or the top cat condo with the hammock in it's original position. Poor design on that part, however fixable with swapping sides. After the hammock/shelf swap my cats went wild for the mouse toy. Like others the mouse toy was removed from the cat tree with in a week or two. I simply tied another mouse toy to the string. The two higher sitting posts really don't serve a purpose other then adding additional scratching posts as the 'seats' are too small for any of my 'kids' to sit in. However, one of them really enjoys laying on the top cat condo to watch things out the back door or play with the replaced mouse toy. For the price and the semi peace it's instilled in my household I feel it was a good purchase.
Great product!!! Cats love it - so I do too!!11/25/2011
Been wanting one of these for a long time but couldn't afford the $200-$400 pricetag. This one is just as nice and easy to put together once I saw a sticker on the end of one post with the # (some of the stickers were missing). Have 11 cats and they all love it so I do too! Hammock is small but even my big (15 lb.) cat has curled up in it for a nap. Made for a corner but mine is just out in the floor right now (I'll put it against the wall eventually). Cats have had no problems getting from one level to the next but they all have claws and are great jumpers. Had it for 2 weeks and no problems or concerns at all. Only issue was that one of my cats chewed through the cord holding the mouse, but she's bad about that and it's certainly not a defect. The cats just play with the mouse on the floor and enjoy the condo for lounging and sleep. Extremely happy with this item!!!
Good Price Not optimal layout11/11/2011
For what the pet stores charge this is a bargain. I found the individual pieces to bet very solid and sturdy. Most pieces have a solid metal screw and thread connection to each other that should not break. Given the massive height though it will still wobble and flex if you do not have it against a wall or in a corner for support. Probably would be difficult to tip over though but not impossible. Also the "hammock" is so small as to only be suitable for a kitten. Even a small grown cat will not fit. Since it is perfectly vertical and not offset it is very difficult for a cat to get to each level from the one below unless they jumped stratght up from the ground as there is no access hole from one level to another. Useage is 50/50 for me. One cat likes it the other does not touch it.
Cats love it, ships fast!8/8/2011
This shipped out the day after I ordered it, and arrived the day after that! Assembly was quick and easy, and the cats love it so much that they were playing on it before I finished putting it together. Downsides: there's a slight smell which takes a few days to air out, cats prefer ripping the toy mouse off to play in the floor (I attached wind chimes to the string instead--both the cats and I enjoy them), and it's a little wobbly, so owners of big or high-energy cats might consider corner placement, or even affixing it to the wall.
Great value thats for sure. Couple downsides but not enough to override the value. One con is the posts that make up the cat condo is kinda flimsy so the unit slightly wabbles when the cat is on the top. not the most sturdy quality but does the job. and also once the cat gets to the ledge under the large cat bed about half way up, there is no way for the cat to get to the top of it if they don't have claws so i had to take the unit apart and swap one of the ledges on the bottom and swaped that with the hammok and then my cat was able to get to the top. also the hammok is kinda small. i have one small cat and shes bulging over it lol. but once we swapped the hammok with the ledge the condo became usuable to my cats that don't have front claws. if i didn't swap it my cats would have no way to get to the top. but great value i would expect to pay 175 for it at a pet store.
