	Appropriately enough for a TV series about a cynical, lackadaisical Brooklynite hipster, the soundtrack to Bored to Death is filled with lackadaisical hip music, trading overt cynicism for a hint of a faux naivet? that's not only fashionable but suits the flights of fancy Jonathan Ames, as portrayed by Jason Schwartzman, has on the show. Schwartzman's excellent one-man band pop outfit Coconut Records opens proceedings with the title track setting the pace with his tuneful shuffle, and things never quite depart from that tone, not even when Dan Auerbach shows up to inject a little blues or when Young Marble Giants get starkly arty. Apart from these two cuts, Bored to Death delivers light, tasteful indie pop, the kind that sounds perfect as bumper music on NPR or as background music at a local independent coffeehouse, representing the mildly quirky charms of the show quite well and working as an album on its own merits. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
