Packed with plenty of frothy pop, the soundtrack to LEGALLY BLONDE is a gal-driven vehicle of hooks and harmonies. Featured along with familiar names like Hoku (the infectious "Perfect Day"), Lisa Loeb (a twang-ful "We Could Still Belong Together"), and Samantha Mumba (the slow-jam "Don't Need You To [Tell Me I'm Pretty]") is an exciting pack of up-and-coming artists. Highlighted performers include punk-pop outfit Lo-Ball ("Can't Get Me Down") giving Green Day a run for their money, Joanna Pacitti ("Watch Me Shine") bringing to mind a young Mariah Carey, and Valeria ("Ooh La La") making like Jennifer Lopez. Other artists make a fine showing with an interesting array of covers. Krystal maintains the inspired aura of Al Green's "Love Is A Beautiful Thing," Mya slips into a funky reading of James Brown's "Sex Machine," and the Black Eyed Peas and Terry Driver transform a Police classic into a hip-hop jam called "Magic." Not unlike Reese Witherspoon's lead character, the music from LEGALLY BLONDE is light-hearted and fun-loving. |
