| The term "outlaw country" initially centered around the groundbreaking 1976 album Wanted! The Outlaws by Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Tompall Glaser, and Jessi Colter. Since that time, the moniker has been broadened to pin down similar likeminded performers who play country music with attitude. The "outlaw" aspect on this particular compilation combines classics like "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way" by Waylon Jennings, "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" by Hank Williams, Jr., and "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" by David Allan Coe with tunes by Shooter Jennings, Gretchen Wilson, and the Georgia Satellites. With the exception of a few omissions, Hank Williams III for instance, The Very Best of Outlaw Country is a great Saturday night CD. ~ Al Campbell | |
