Amazing Album

For one, if you don't like Eminem in the first place, don't review this album. And because he had a drug problem, You don't like him, ok? Second, don't base your review off of four singles, and 30 second clips. Everyone is comparing CD to CD. Think about this, SSLP was 10 years ago, MMLP was 9 years ago, TES was 7 years ago. He's older, things have changed, he can't make the SAME music from 10 years ago.Nice

Product Overview

Anticipation for Relapse has been building since fall 2008, when Eminem first announced the album title and debuted the freestyle, "I'm Having a Relapse," during an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio station. The release of "Crack a Bottle" from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent brought that anticipation to a head. The track soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem's second #1after 2002's "Lose Yourself") and set a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales (418,000). The recording ranked third in the history of all weekly download sales. "Crack a Bottle" will be included as an album track on Relapse.

With the announcement of the release date for Relapse also came confirmation of something that had been rumored for weeks: Eminem is already working on a follow-up album, Relapse 2, that fans can expect in the second half of 2009. "A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year," said Eminem. "I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff."

Eminem's RELAPSE, a double album released after five years of recorded silence, a record featuring Dr. Dre behind the boards for the first time since 2000, faced no shortage of the relentless pressure of expectations. A narrative of survival after facing down his demons in rehab unfurled with Eminem's usual twisted Swift-ian wit, RELAPSE should disappoint few fans (or critics for that matter) with its patented mix of hilariously spit venom and delirious self-loathing.
Like Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, 2009's RELAPSE finds the full horror element in drug addiction. Eminem's raps, for all their over-the-top humor, have always conjured up images fit for Fangoria, but as he comes out of rehab, seeking solace from his demons, Mr. Mathers amps up the gore on RELAPSE. Dre's beats lurk dark-thumping sinister while Em unleashes nightmare dreamscapes of murder, mayhem, and Britney-Spearsacide. One target who gets off surprisingly lightly this time around is his mother (a topic even Em admits in his introduction of which the world is probably sick); "My Mom" boasts softer, bouncier beats and a final line few hip-hop fans would ever expect to hear coming out of his mouth.
Artist Overview
Eminem is one of the best-selling artists in hip-hop history, easily the biggest crossover success the rap genre has seen in years. Rapid, fluid, dexterous, and unpredictable, and thanks to his mentor Dr. Dre, he had the music to match: thick, muscular loops evoking the terror and paranoia Em's music conjured. With hits like "My Name Is," he ruled the airwaves in the 2000s, but it wasn't long before the depth of his art became clear, helped by his self-starring biopic "8 Mile". A number of demons led him to shut down for the second half of the decade, an absence that ended in 2009 with the album Relapse. ~ Jason Ankeny
Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.68) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The power of RELAPSE comes from Em aiming his beatdowns at his truest target, himself....RELAPSE is reason to be glad he's still around."
Billboard - "[T]he disc is packed with satisfying hooks and Eminem's ridiculously fabulous flow....He doesn't surf the beat so much as box with it, with both brutality and no small degree of grace."
