| Listening to the breezy, reggae-flavored pop of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Trevor Hall, it's hard to imagine it as the product of a 22-year-old, South Carolina-born, resident of a Hindu ashram. Such is the nature of Southern Californian beach culture, which Hall and his music seems to fit to a tee. On his 2009 self-titled album, Hall presents an earnest blend of good vibes reggae, roots rock, and ethnic flavors that will resonate with fans of the adult alternative sounds of Jason Mraz, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson. Far from a cookie-cutter version of those artists, Hall infuses his songs with a deep and sincere spirituality, tempered by a message of religious tolerance, as evidenced by "Unity," a song inspired as a response to the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 2008. | |
