This novelized historical account pieces together true facts concerning the life and work of Copernicus and some rich imagined interpersonal dialogue between he and his young German protégé (and only pupil), mathematician Georg Joachim von Lauchen, or Rheticus. It was presumably Rheticus who convinced his tutor to go public with the heliocentric theories that he'd been working on for years. This student-teacher/protégé-mentor relationship is the frame for a larger story about scientific revolution and the danger of an idea whose time hasn't yet come.
