Sherryl Woods is the author of more than 100 novels, most categorized as romance or women's fiction, although she writes an occasional mystery as well. She is particularly beloved for such series as the Trinity Harbor books (which take place in a fictional version of Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small town where she spent childhood summers), the Sweet Magnolias tales (which celebrate female friendship), and the Chesapeake Shores novels (which focus on a large family named the O'Briens). She grew up in Virginia, and after graduating from the Ohio State University School of Journalism, she spent more than a decade as a reporter and TV critic at papers in Ohio and Florida. "I'd never actually considered writing fiction, but one day I realized that I was no longer having as much fun as a journalist as I thought I ought to be," Woods once told an interviewer. Because she loved reading romance novels, she tried her hand at the genre. Unlike many novelists, she received no long string of rejection letters, selling several books in quick succession. Her first, RESTORING LOVE (1982), was published under the pseudonym Suzanne Sherrill. Her second, SAND CASTLES, came out later the same year under the pseudonym Alexandra Kirk. Woods began using her own name soon after that, and in 1986, she began writing fiction full-time. She has said, "Not only am I a firm believer in happily-ever-after, but I like writing stories that are relevant to women's lives."
