One Fatal Flaw
The noise cancellation of these phones in an airplane environment is average-to-good. The sound quality with noise cancellation on is very good. However, these headphones have one fatal flaw. The supplied cord to connect a music players is inserted into a gaping hole in one headphone housing with the result that if you do not insert it, that hole reduces substantially the noise cancellation of the headphones. When you are on a 13 hour flight to Japan, you don't necessarily want to be listening to a player the entire time, and the need to have a chord dangling from the headphones can be a major nuissance. As well, if the supplied chord is damaged or lost, the headphones are essentially useless. The manufacturer should have supplied a "dummy" plug for the hole so the headphones can be used without the chord or, better, should have installed miniphone jack on the surface of the headphone as other manufacturers (e.g., Panasonic) do. Presumably they saved two cents by putting the mini-phone jack on the printed circuit board, which causes the above problems and resulted in this less than enthusiastic review.
