acer aspire one unbeatable for the money
9/25/2008
Purchased after researching minis from ASUS and DELL. I made the right decision. The Acer's combination of style, build quality, specs (120gbhd , 1 meg mem, xp), and price cannot be beat. It is the ultimate travel computer for business or pleasure. Small, light. Glossy, Good looking computer in white. Battery life has been great 3+ hours. The computer is surprisigly solid and well built; better, in fact, than my other 2 notebooks costing 3x this unit. No keyboard flex or cheap feeling ergonomics. Quiet operation. Screen is bright and clear. As for the split buttons on the touch pad, you adapt to it quickly; not at all the big headache reviewers claim it to be.
A 1.6 atom, 120 gig hd, 1 meg memory, win xp, web cam that looks good and is well built for $399; whats not to like.
Only 2 negs: performance a bit slow, small screen size will show only partial (upper 2/3) pages on more primitive web site (ie: webkinz for kids)
Overall, Acer hit this out of the park!!!!! I have orders in for 2 additional units.

great portable machine
9/24/2008
My new Acer Aspire One has met my expectations! It readily accesses the Internet and it's so easy to take along with me. Specific thoughts are 1) I don't have an external hard drive so it's difficult to load additional programs..but I will. I have learned, however, that Microsoft Works allows me to open and save Word Documents and Excel. 2) It's necessary for me to use a mouse rather than relying on the touch pad which is very small. 3) I'll use mini-speakers since the speakers are located on the bottom of this machine. 5) the user guide is fairly skimpy!

Small yet full featured
9/8/2008
I do astronomy, and when traveling to dark sites I try to stay as light as possible... therefore the Acer 150 seemed like a perfect fit.
And a perfect fit it is! Don't let the small package fool you, the keyboard is easy to use and the screen (1024x600) is very easy to read, albeit not as much real estate as its larger brethren. The Intel Atom chip is actually pretty fast and thrifty; turning the wireless off and the screen on low I achived almost 3hrs of use.
The only two things I would like to see improved are the touchpad buttons (oddly placed and kinda awkward to use), and a screen that darkens more. There really isn't much difference between lowest and highest brightness. Other than that, it's a package that's very hard to beat in value. Highly recommend.

All I expected

Perfect for my needs. I travel a lot and need to file news stories, read emails, process photos as quickly as possible. Like the keyboard for touch typing, the processor speed is adequate and the price is good -- although Acer has dropped the price by $50 even though it's not reflected in the buy.com listing. A number of reviews complained about the touch pad, but I find it fine once you get use to it. Couldn't be happier.

Excellent - for the right purpose
8/13/2008
If you're looking for a second computer to take traveling, you'd be hard pressed to beat this.
Let's start with the Cons:
- Some keys (Home / End) only accessible with Function key combinations (making typing hard for those who are very good at keyboard shortcuts).
- Wireless performance inconsistent after resuming from Standby mode (probably a driver issue).
- Trackpad with side buttons is an exercise in aggravation.
- Battery life is laughable (2 hrs, if you're very lucky)
The Pros:
- Everything else
It's a solid machine, a decent performer, light as a feather, with a screen that (though small) is crystal clear and sharp from most viewing angles.
If you're sick of Win Mobile devices, but don't want a heavy, expensive, full-blown laptop, this is the machine for you.
