Maybe I got a lemon?1/2/2010
In less than 6 months this computer would no longer charge correctly. I assume that there is a problem with the power adapter? When I got it to charge, it worked fine. It will no longer take a charge at all. I really only got a few good months of use out of this computer. It was a little slow but I was satisfied with it while it worked.
Very pleased with preformance7/20/2009
Had a asus 2 gig surf when i realized the limitations of that one. I started comparing size features prices again for the "next one" This was the one I picked. It reconized the usb flash instantly and was albe to transfer music lists files easily onto this machine . Also it found the wireless connections almost instantly. One con ; if you use the netbook often go back to your desk top and or laptop for the big applications. You might find yourself frustrated on the seemingly slow start up of the lap top and pc, compared to how fast the netbook start up is.
When I first saw the size of the keyboard, I was a bit intimidated. But after only a few uses, I use it just as if it were full-size. Most reviews say that you can't use netbooks as fully functional home computers, but they're wrong. It's portable enough for me to take to school, and at home I have it hooked up to an external monitor, as well as wireless keyboard and mouse for ease of use. The only 2 issues that I have are 1. Mouse. The pointer grabs and drags items or the screen A LOT. Solution: mini wireless mouse. Fixed. 2. Resolution size. While you're out and about, you wouldn't desire a different resolution size for the computer, at home it gets very irritating when you hook it up to an external monitor. Overall VERY impressed with this product. I bought one for my girlfriend for Christmas, and I end up using it so much that I'm thinking about getting myself one.
Great computer... slow internet fix5/14/2009
So far I love the Acer Aspire One. I was worried that the screen size would be too small and that the keyboard would be hard to type on. Both have been great and not an issue. I love the portability of this laptop. The mouse pad takes some getting used to but not too bad. One complaint was the slow internet speed I was getting from it. It was incredibly slow opening pages and loading sites. We thought about sending it back but then did a web search to try to resolve the issue. Found this fix and it resolved the problem. To fix it:, right click my computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager… then find your wireless adapter in the list under Network Adapters, right click > properties > advanced tab. Select Power Save Mode and select “Off” or “Normal” from the drop down on the right. Press OK and close device manager. Hope this helps others as it is extremely frustrating until power save mode is turned off.
Great Value for the Money!4/14/2009
Bought 3 weeks ago. Love everything about it, Fast Start up,Clear bright Screen,Large use-able keyboard. Purchased in White(it is a pearl White) Keyboard Keys and Cover are 2 different colors of white. Speakers project sound from bottom of keyboard, which can be muffeld if setting on a soft surface,(using earphones has great sound). Wireless connects Fast and Camera has a great range(works great with Skype).6 Cell battery has long life before needing a charge but does add significant weight, bought a Case Logic 7-10" DVD cover at Wal-Mart for 9 bucks and ordered a BUILDT Black DVD Tote at Adorama for $24.95 and a Customized SKIN at SKIN-IT!Love how portable it is. Will buy another one in 6 months in Black to match Car decor.
so far so great4/7/2009
Opened mine up last night and everything is soaring along great. I'm actually impressed with the speed, no noticable slow down performing any task, and it boots super quick. I'm also impressed with the standard embedded software, a few bloat programs, but many useful ones already loaded (like Adobe PDF reader for one). **this is the first new computer I've bought since 2001, so my comments may be somewhat dated :-)** One thing I'll point out as others on here have mentioned buying an external dvd drive for loading software and such. If you have another computer that has a dvd drive, this can be shared over your network. I loaded MS Office 2003 onto my Acer over my home network by putting the disk into my desktop machine. But... it didn't work for some other software I tried, so your milage may vary. Worth a shot before plunking down for the extra drive, though. Also from researching around on the net, two things I did immediately. 1) turn off powersave mode for the wireless, 2) downloaded an application that makes it so the fan doesn't continuously run. Only complaint so far is that while the computer is tiny, the power cord is a tad bulky. The section that plugs into the wall is very long and thick, and it has three prongs instead of just two. So far, I'm quite happy with it.
Little slow but I didn't expect much on performance. Since it is so light, my wife loves to carry it around. It has some issues with the software.(may be...) When the laptop is boot up the tapping function doesn't work for awhile. And if an application is opened, (IE, firefox, word, etc...) they blink like crazy. pressing a Control button stops it, then everything is back to normal. I've updated the XP and driver of the touch pad. Nothing seems to correct it. However, it's not a big deal that my wife and I learned to work around it.
Great little machine2/18/2009
I bought an ASUS and was very unhappy with the keyboard, which had an odd arrangement of the shift key and inconsistent keys. So I purchase this ACER and have been very pleased. Quick operation, good keyboard, easy wireless. Just sent for another one for my wife.
all around as for price and components this is the best value. most gig hard drive, ram, very small and light, easy to use thanks to xp. ive done my hw, for the price, right now, this is the best youre getting. its got usb, sd, wifi, everywhere i go people love it and are impressed by the guts in it stop reading this and buy it ps: my only regret is that i didnt get the black one, the white is like a pearly white, so yeah.. pps: the 2 day shipping seriously is 2 day shipping, i ordered it wed night, and got it early friday morning
I ordered the machine on a Friday night with free (5 to 7 day shipping). It shipped on the following Monday and was delivered on Tuesday. The machine was as promised and I use it often. The only negative is that during installation of some programs you experience a dialog box that may be larger than the screen. Only two resolutions: 800 x 600 or 1024 x 600. With 1 GB ram and a 160 GB hard drive this machine handles everything that I do on my laptops and desk unit.
On the road lifesaver1/3/2009
This mini laptop is very light and easy to carry. The battery life is great 5-6 hours. Its nicely designed, and the quality of the camera and mic are great, so it can be easily used with skype, or any other messenger/phone type service. I love it-its fast, with good memory, a big enough hard drive, and the wireless is as good as well. If you need a light one for travel (it fits very nicely on tiny trays on planes too), or even to carry one in the car in case you need to go on line, that's the one! I use it also around the house and yard when I need to check e mails, news, etc. It's a real cool mini computer, and the price is right!!
love, love, love this baby computer!12/25/2008
I bought this little computer for my son who was recently married. When we opened it up, my husband said "that's the coolest thing I've ever seen -- order one for me." So, I did -- then I got one for myself. It is great. It's so convenient to have such a small computer. I have it on my kitchen counter and I can pull up my email or a recipe in a flash. It's really convenient, and we all love it.
Wow dynamite does come in small packages. This netbook gives more power than expected. The WiFi modem picks up a strong signal from my home wireless network. The screen has great color at medium resolution. The size of the screen and keyboard take some getting use to. Great that it comes with XP, cuz it does things my bigger laptop with Vista does not let me do, like dial into pc's at work. All software runs fast, but U need a cheap external USB CD drive to install any software. Great for any chores on the net be it banking, browsing, or chatting with friends. Lightness and size makes portability way cool, it is internet on the fly, considering you have the signal of course. All programmers at work like this netbook. For the price, how could you go wrong?
