Best Bang for the Buck!!
Incredible option for the money! I am a Graphic Designer and was about to buy the Apple 20" widescreen LCD for $799. Something in my shoppers mind told me to check if there was a 19" widescreen. And lo and behold, Acer made one: 500:1 contrast ratio (I wouldn't buy anything less); 330 cd/m2 brightness (brighter than the standard around 260 cd/m2; The response time is 23ms (not that fast, But I don't use it for gaming). It was also almost 1/3 of the cost of the 20". 1/3 of the cost!!!!!! At first, I was hesitant to buy an Acer product. They had a bad rep (one step up from eMachines-enough said) for making not-so-good computers. Fortunately, I took what I thought was a quality gamble and won! The widescreen is great for my graphic applications. I can put all the tools to the side and have plenty of work space. It doesn't feel like I am running out of screen space. The other option is to buy a video card that allows two monitors and use one for the tools, and the other for pure work space. I have also done this and love it too. This time I chose the widescreen for a little more cost than one 17" LCD and gives much more work space. I also researched the 17" widescreen by Westinghouse. It's claims on resolution and contrast did not match up when I saw the demo's at Best Buy. The price was the same as this 19" widescreen. No brainer. It is also great for when I play movies in widescreen. The built in speakers do the job. It's no surround sound, but when your in the office, you don't need to blast it. That's what a big TV is for. With this monitor and the MacMini, It takes up so little space on my desk (About as much space as my laptop would take). I was hesitant to switch to LCD from my Viewsonic CRT's, but the color translations and most importantly, freeing up desk space, was the payoff. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Highly recommended! -Ed of www.edpeji.com
