With two weeks to go in the presidential election, Vice President Brian Baxter is trailing in the polls by more than five points. After delivering a speech at Georgetown University, Baxter''s motorcade is ambushed by a group of terrorists. The vice president narrowly escapes, but his wife and a half dozen Secret Service agents are killed in the assault. Two weeks later Baxter is carried to victory by a sympathy vote. On the surface the terrorist attack appears to be an open and shut case. That is, until a package appears on the doorstep of Special Agent Skip McMahon, the FBI''s lead investigator of the terrorist attack. The contents of the package are so toxic that the veteran law enforcement officer seriously considers destroying the evidence, that is until he thinks of Mitch Rapp, the one man who''s reckless enough to follow the evidence to its explosive conclusion. Rapp''s journey is one that will shake the pillars of power in Washington and ultimately lead to his redemption.
From the Publisher:
When a presidential candidate wins the election through sympathy votes two weeks after a terrorist attack kills his wife, CIA operative Mitch Rapp investigates dangerous allegations about the attack's hidden agenda, a case that threatens the government's stability.

MITCH RAPP RETURNS IN VINCE FLYNN'S EIGHTH EXPLOSIVE THRILLER!

It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice-president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national security conference has just been held, bringing together the world's greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It's American politicking at its best. That's when all hell breaks loose.

When presidential candidate Josh Alexander's motorcade is ambushed by a group of terrorists, the nation is thrown into turmoil. Two weeks following the attack, Alexander is carried to victory by a sympathy vote, but his assailants have not been found. On the surface it appears to be the work of al-Qaeda, and soon the FBI and the rest of the government begin scouring the world for jihadists. But then CIA director Irene Kennedy and Special Agent Skip McMahon are presented with classified information so toxic that they consider destroying it altogether, as it contains intelligence pointing to some of the most powerful players in Washington.

Enter Mitch Rapp, the one man reckless enough to follow the evidence to its explosive conclusion. His journey takes him through the shadowy world of contract killers, into the darkest corners of the globe, and eventually back to Washington, where the fragile pillars of power are shaken to the core.

Annotation:
After a bomb kills a presidential candidate's wife, Mitch Rapp, the maverick CIA agent, jumps into action. In the process of the investigation, he discovers the dark underbelly of the intelligence world.
Author Bio
Vince Flynn
Each one of Vince Flynn's political thrillers has landed on the bestseller list, and he counts among his millions of readers many Washington insiders--including former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Flynn, the fifth of seven children, was born in St. Paul Minnesota, and although he suffered from severe dyslexia, in 1988 he earned a degree in economics from the University of St. Thomas. "I came of age in the 1980s," he once told an interviewer, explaining his staunch political conservatism. "That's when Ronald Reagan gets shot, the Pope gets shot. We've just finished the hostage deal over in Iran. There's the Beirut Embassy bombing and then Pan Am Lockerbie. Then the Berlin Wall falls. So that's my decade." Flynn began his career as a marketing specialist with Kraft Foods, but within a few years he decided to join the U.S. Marines. The week before he was due to start officers' training, he has told reporters, he was disqualified due to a childhood seizure disorder. Demoralized, he found another office job, but in the evenings he began penning a novel, TERM LIMITS, which he self-published in 1997. The book quickly caught the notice of a major publishing company, which reissued it the following year. In 1999 Flynn published TRANSFER OF POWER, the first of his novels to feature renegade counter-terrorism agent Mitch Rapp. The character has proven to be a favorite of intelligence professionals and members of the military, and Flynn has been widely praised for both his research and prescience. His books are, on occasion, so accurate-MEMORIAL DAY (2004), for example, described a raid very much like the one that ultimately killed Osama bin Laden in 2011--that they have been vetted by the Pentagon before their release, and they are sometimes read by the Secret Service to identify possible security lapses.

Praise

"Tom Clancy fans who have not yet discovered bestseller Flynn (Consent to Kill) and his maverick, do-whatever-it-takes hero, CIA operative Mitch Rapp, will find this page-turner right up their alley." 09/04/2006
