Junk at $8 - Must use XP or Older10/11/2010
Can not say it does or doesn't convert video well. We have serveral Ipod videos we use to veiw movies in camper, plane etc. A fast converstion system seemed hopefull. Buy.com price less then $10, sure I was secptical, but whats a few dollars. Driver OLD OLD. Seller will not even respond with work around. Good luck if you have xp or windows 98 it might work.
Only for older systems10/11/2010
1. Only works on Windows XP. 2. There is no update whatsoever so don't hope for an update. 3. The speed is okay, but if you have a newer pc such as core2duo or i3, there is no point since the new cpu does conversion even faster than this product since it was launch in 2005 to complement the lower performance cpus at the time. 4. Many newer video formats not supported. (e.g. no AVCHD) Verdict: only buy if you plan to keep using your old XP system for years to come and are satisfied with the limited choices of video formats.
Will not work on Win7 or Vista system10/7/2010
I followed the instructions and tried installing the software on two systems. One is running Windows 7 the other Vista. Neither worked, even after reboots. When I tried to go to the manufactures web address all I received were errors!! Great idea but a total waste of time and money on my systems!! Called the seller and they were no help.
Drivers for Windows 7 or Vista not available. Didn't work with Windows 7 when trying to use XP drivers. Product appears to be discontinued.
I read several reviews before making the purchase for my creative zen. Installed the product and the software. Recording took as long with device pluged in as not (45 min for a 30 min video). I called customer support, which took over an hour and was then no help. They advised the conversion software would not work at all if the device was not pluged in, and had no suggestions. I reconfirmed that the software ran without the device by uninstalling the software and reinstalling with the provided CD. Still had the same issues, and am now returning the device.
A winner for h.264 encoding4/13/2007
I'm not a big fan of ADS (the last ADS product I bought was a $200 paperweight), but this little USB "encoding accelerator" is terrific. I use it to encode DV-AVI files (12-14 GB per hour) to high-quality mpeg4 files at 640x480 for my iPod (about 700MB/hour). I plug the iPod into my 37" HD-LCD tv and get a very good picture. I have tried numerous low-cost software only solutions and the ADS Instant-Video-To-Go (using the included ArcSoft software) produces WAY better quality than, for example, QuickTime Pro. It is also about 7-8 times faster than QuickTime Pro. The device is a little bit buggy, though -- even though I updated the drivers and software. Sometimes the ArcSoft software stops recognizing the device, so you have to unplug it then plug it back in. Also, during one batch-encoding process, the entire computer froze, and it took a while to get everything back up and working. In spite of this, I think it's a great product for the price ($65 with shipping).
