	Agnihotra is an ancient Hindu fire ritual performed in the morning and evening, accompanied by specific chants of gratitude to various deities. This CD is a haunting and resonant introduction to the traditional Hindu mantra cycle associated with this purifying ritual. Between instructive bits of narration, Ravindra Sathe's rich baritone and clear diction give brilliant life to these ancient mantras. He is joined in some call-and-response chanting by a small group of vocalists, but other than that, there is no musical backing or anything to detract from the power of the mantras. Unless the listener is already familiar with the chants and can manage to sing along, this album is more for listening than for active participation--and just listening is an electrifying experience.
