Review When human remains are found in the sewer system cop David Madison is sent in for a look see. He finds all sorts of clues and suggestions that there is something not right in the sewers, but it is not until an unlucky photographer snaps a few pics ala Jaws 2 that we begin to learn just what is lurking amongst the turds...Alligator is not a bad Jaws rip off, there are some decent kills and the alligator itself does not look bad at all. There are just too many similarities between Alligator and Jaws for my taste. The main ripoff being Brock who is a big game hunter, he is to much like Quint and when you see what happens to him you tell me if the makers of this film did not steal the idea from Jaws...One of the best parts of this flick is when the gator sneaks into a swimming pool and a little boy is being made to walk the plank by his friends, HA HA, ain't nothing like kid McNuggets to a hungry gator. Good for a rent or if you've never seen Alligator, a pretty good monster flick.

Scott Weinberg, John Sayles' screenplay mixes monster flick mayhem with a whole lot of wit.
Variety ...bloody and boisterous...Forster, as a detective, and Riker are amiable leads...
