Great low cost eReader3/24/2012
This is a great low cost eReader. Not a lot of features, but works fine as a simple reader. The only shortcoming is that the battery life doesn't seem to be what they claimed. Charges in a reasonable time, so not a big complaint.
Excellent little gizmo!9/28/2011
Pros:No wi-fi, Plays mp3's, Lightweight, well placed controls, Affordable Best Uses: Ebooks I love this little ereader! I've had mine almost a year--use it every day--and have had NO problems w/it. And I paid MUCH more for mine! Ordering another as a spare at this great price!
After I got passed the novelty of a new toy, I had regrets. I wished I had waited a bit and put the $90 toward a multifunctional, color reader+. The Aluratek screen of gray on gray is unreadable in low light. Loading additional books onto a 4 gig SD card is easy as pie. Tried several different formats from the Gutenberg collection; all load without problem. Increasing font size sometimes causes unnatural page breaks which are annoying. Automatically bookmarks last page when shut down -- nice feature. Battery life is much less than advertised.
Worth the Money6/26/2011
Pros: Good price for an e-reader. Handles several common book formats well, including epub books from the library. It also plays audiobooks and music in MP3 format. If you hit "stop" during the play of an audiobook, the unit will remember where you left off, which is an essential feature in listening to audiobooks. It has a long battery life between charges. Cons: No backlight feature to this unit, meaning the brighter the light on it, the better the contrast between words and background. But at best you are reading dark gray letters on medium gray background. Outdoors the reading is best. It takes forever to add or delete large items using a computer, such as audiobooks. The reader comes full of books; it's full upon arrival. You can always delete the existing books, but it won't accommodate more than a few books without expanded memory. Other notes: There is a firmware update on the Aluratek web site, but the tech didn't recommend using it unless you need to add the Polish language to your unit. I found the agent helpful the two times I called.
Screen too dark.6/14/2011
Unlike the Nook (which my teenage daughter owns) the pages on the screen are not white. They are a shade of gray with the printing being a much darker shade of gray. This made the e-reader hard to read unless a light was shining directly on it. Everything else about it was acceptable. The page turns were fast enough, the music sounded good, it recognized my microSD card right away. However, by the third chapter of the first book, I was so annoyed at the lack of contrast between the page in the background and the printing, that I packed it up and returned it. This may not be as much of a problem for someone younger and with better eyes, but for a fifty year old wearing bi-focals it was too much of a problem.
Love this ereader6/10/2011
I have bought a total of 4 of these ereaders within the past 2 years. I love it. It is capable of reading a multitude of formats, the size is perfect, the screen is great, it plays music, the battery lasts a decent amount of time. I currently have this reader and a kobo. I had a kindle that I sent back. I use this reader when I need something more compact and the kobo when I have the space to carry it. This reader stands up against every other reader I have tried and I've tried a lot of them. My favorites have whittled down to this one and the kobo. I have about 1,000 books on an SD card in this reader now and have read over 100 of them. This reader does not have a dictionary and does not read metadata from book files.
This is great. My Granddaughter loves it.
Alura-tek is easy to use, easy to transfer books/stories from computer to the e-reader, uses e-pub which is available at most stores. You can't go wrong purchasing an Alura-tek, screen is nice size, clear easy to read. Button are easy to access while reading. No problems with this e-reader so far.
