| Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1 marks the initial release of the Bellamy Brothers' two-disc retrospective celebrating the 30th anniversary of their first number one hit, "Let Your Love Flow," in 1976. To commemorate the occasion, brothers Howard and David Bellamy assembled a wide array of guest artists, including Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton, George Jones, and Tanya Tucker, to add a new twist to several of their most recognizable hits. Souped-up versions of "Sugar Daddy," "Old Hippie," "Redneck Girl," and "If I Said You Had a Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me)" work well with slightly different arrangements and guest vocalists. With the release of Angels & Outlaws, Vol. 1, the Bellamy Brothers deliver the goods instead of simply providing re-recorded tracks, which they've done in the past with lackluster results, or plainly reissuing the same hits yet again, like they did on the 2001 release The 25 Year Collection. As an added bonus, two excellent new songs penned by David Bellamy are included: "Guardian Angel" with Willie Nelson and "Alligator Alley" featuring John Anderson. ~ Al Campbell | |
