Armchair Thiller-Set 2 (2010)

Editor's Note Bracketed under the collective title of "Armchair Thriller," this set actually presents several made-for-television suspensers from Britain, rebroadcast in the U.S. on the PBS anthology series MYSTERY!. The first selection in the mix, THE CHELSEA MURDERS, is a miniseries produced in the UK in 1979, that finds the police competing with the press to be the first to apprehend a gruesome serial killer in Chelsea, England; the set also includes the two-hour feature-length version of this story, directed by Derek Bennett in 1981. The third program in the set, the miniseries THE CIRCE COMPLEX, was produced in 1981; it concerns a scheme to spring a jewel fence from prison, which pits his wife, her lovers and a police detective against one another in a search for the treasure. Finally, the miniseries QUIET AS A NUN (1978) finds a TV investigator pulled into a case given the bizarre death of a childhood friend-turned-cleric.
