Best known for her picture books about Frances the badger and her easy-reader books about Arthur the chimp, Lillian Hoban led an interesting life before she settled down to write and illustrate children's books. A graduate of the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, Hoban studied dance with Martha Graham and worked as a professional dancer. Many of the books she created, including the Frances series, were written with her then-husband, Russell Hoban.
