Customer Reviews of ASUS RT-N13U Wireless N Router with All-in-One Printer Server
needed this as our house hold kept getting more wirelss items. upped our signal & we have got full bars now.
waste of money3/20/2012
bought this because i needed a printer server. the setup required 2 calls to tech support and only then did i find out it just wont work with my lexmark printer. instructions were meager and useless. yhey need to publish some sort of compatability utility or at least a list of printers that work.
Doesn't work out of box8/17/2011
I contacted ASUS support and they couldn't make it work either. I had to return it to Buy.com. But the return was hassle-free.
Good once I updated the Software12/29/2010
This unit would not stay connected to my cable modem until I updated the software, now it has been solid for two weeks. Printer port would print many copies when only one was selected until I enabled "Count LBR Bytes" in Windows Printer Port Setup. Although it is faster than my old 54G I have never achieved 300MBS.
This is a great router. Worked right out of box after loading the software. Print server is a very nice feature.
Good Deal, Good Product11/29/2010
This router was easy to set up and use. Upgrading to the new N standard made a real difference in signal strength in my place.
No repeater setup hints11/16/2010
If you want to use this as a repeater, as I do, you are on your own. The RT-N13U User's Manual is available on the ASUS web site, but it has no instructions at all about how to configure it as a wireless repeater. After trying a few different settings, it connected to my D-Link DIR-655 on the ground floor and the signal is very strong upstairs. One nice plus is that it also serves as a wireless bridge in repeater mode - the RJ45 ports (4) are connected too. I'm not using them now though.
Good router but network printer does not work well11/10/2010
Overall it's a super good router for those who want a new N router. Price is reasonable, almost half of other brands, and the network transfer speed is great. I use it mainly for WD Live Player with N wireless adaptor, the HD media stream speed is sufficient. The server and player is 2 floors away. But when I connect it to a Samsung ML-1740 laser printer by USB, it keeps sending same repeated pages, I have to remove the printer. But I usually dont use network printer so it's not a big deal.
I operate it in the router mode and it works fine. The good thing about this product is that it has a lot of features.
Router works great10/11/2010
Haven't hooked up the print server function yet, but the router is working just fine. May updated my review if things change...
Worked initially, but it's going downhill9/20/2010
The router initially worked great and was easy to setup. After having it almost a month I've have to turn it off/on multiple times. Had to do a hard reset because I couldn't get an IP address. Now the wifi signal strength is extremely poor and I'm only 12 feet away. Unsatisfied with product.
best router I've ever had9/19/2010
I bought this router for the convenience of a print server and/or the ftp server. I decided to use the ftp server, however, I'm finding out that it seems to only work with thumb drives not any external hard drive as advertised. No matter, because the extra range that this router has not only for the N antenna but for the G as well makes up for it. Also, I've noticed a huge difference in bandwidth actually hitting my computer over my previous routers, which has included the cheapy but long lasting Airlink and the famous Linksys which broke every year for me and had to be replaced. But one of the biggest value items for this router is the ability to prioritize your traffic through the EzQos bandwidth management system. I can choose to allocate more bandwidth when I'm playing online on xbox or allocate more when I'm downloading a bluray movie so it goes faster. That's the best feature, and it works. The setting up mac address thing other people are talking about is only if your isp requires that your hardware reports your mac address back to them. If that's the case, any router you'd have trouble setting up, not that it's hard to do. With mine, I just plugged it into my modem and the wall and the router was set up. The longest setup was the ftp server and that took 2mins. Super great buy, especially if you got the rebate and the value is there for a router originally priced at $50.
Connectivity not regular9/18/2010
I have experienced interruptions in connectivity and the connection needs to be reset. At times I had to restart by disconnecting the power supply. Suggest for light home use only.
I've had this router for about two months now and it has worked flawlessly. I was setup and running after 5 minutes out of the box. The configuration software is nice. My only complaint is that I got it to act as a print server for my printer but it doesn't support the model of my HP inkjet. Be sure to check on ASUS site for your printer model and compatibility if this is important to you.
GREAT Range, and wired throughput!9/14/2010
Wow, this router has met and exceeded my expectations. It's not dual radio/frequency, and it doesn't have gigabit ethernet ports, but what does very well with what it does have! It was very easy to setup, and it took less than 10 minutes to replace my old router. I changed the IP address, new password, added wireless security, and entered in all my port forwarding for my manual IP addresses. All of this in under 10 minutes. It has been running great ever since. In mixed wireless mode, I connect 150Mb/s with my wireless N device, and 54Mb/s with my wireless G device with improved range over my old WRT54G router. I'm sure the wireless N would connect at higher bit rates, if I didn't have it set for mixed mode.
multi-use Router with Printer server at low price. The speed appears to be not what as it is said.
Works Just for Browsing9/9/2010
Installation was easy and connection stable. Shows high connection speed. Using speed check site on the web is shows that this router 4 times slower than Netgear router. After some time the video streaming from CBS is not working, reboot the router working again and then stopped. Connected Netgesr router works like a charm. Also drops about 4 to 20% ping test. Not sure why. Spoke to Asus techs, advised to send it back to the store as defective. QOS is not automatic and port will not open for software by learning user set up from your PC as in the new models from major competition. Wi-Fi is good for a 3000 ft house.
Good hardware, works well, documentation is lousy9/7/2010
Bought to serve as a repeater. However the instructions for this configuration are very minimal ... even on the supplied CD. Also, if you are planning to use it as a print server, as was advertised, the instructions for this are among the missing ... at least I haven't found them. There are what appear to be complete instructions if you want to use it as a router ... I haven't tried it in this configuration, but I have no doubt that it would work as advertised.
Router functions work just fine9/7/2010
Setup was easy. Performance very good. Did not realize that in order to maximize performance you needed to switch to "n" only, cutting out the older "g" hardware in your network. Still performance is very good and wireless signal is improved from the router it replaced. Had one glitch with my Verizon Range Extender losing signal, but I am hoping this was a glitch. The router is not known to be listed as not playing well with the extender. Have not yet tried printer functionality.
Good after Initial Set-up9/7/2010
It took me hours to get this up and running, almost to the point where my wife said just stop wasting time and return it. Instead of working out of the box I had to do a MAC cloning procedure... Only works standing up, the base is not removable if you want to lay it flat. I used a rebate for overall price of $25, can't beat that.
Good range, easy setup9/2/2010
After having a difficult time previously with a Linksys wireless router, I almost gave up on upgrading my wireless G network. I am glad I gave this ASUS wireless router a try because setup was easy and straightforward. It can be used as a range extender as well, so I bought another one to extend my wireless range. We have three floors and the range is full bars on all floors.
Horrible Wifi , nice features8/31/2010
ASUS clearly missed the mark here. Painful setup (MAC binding issue) and the worst Wifi range performance I've ever seen. This wired ports work fine and the router has a decent admin setup with lots of nice features, but the Wifi is sooo bad, its now officially retired as a backup and my old "g" router is back in place. Very disappointed with this product and ASUS support (well, actually lack of support). Probably a good thing, because I was considering one of their laptops.
Great Router Performance better than major brands8/30/2010
Have it for 2 weeks, set up was pretty simple using web interface. Nice payout of the web interface. UPNP and QOS work great though you have to set up services manually. Netgear just adds your torrents and IP address by learning them from the software on your computers and opens the ports. Range is better than any router I tested. For the a lot less money you will get a great performing router and Asus name and two years warranty.
GREAT VALUE PROPOSTION8/26/2010
This router took a bit of work to get running as a print server, and I had some issues getting it running wirelessly but it was worth the effort. Once it was up and running it provided a solid connection and great speed. Well worth the after rebate price of approx $25. I have yet to load open firmware on it but expect it will just get a lot better. Bravo ASUS!!!!
Works with Comcast's Thomson phone modem6/11/2010
My brand new D-Link DIR-615 worked fine until I switched to Comcast's Triple Play, but I've been without wireless (and MLB.TV on the big screen in the living room) ever since. Thanks to this ASUS, my wireless is back. The coolest thing is the setup: "Look, Mom, no software!" The first time I will reach for the CD is if and when I use the print server capability! Great product...now, if they only made it in black...
I purchased this product and received it in two days, with the standard base shipping and when it arrived it was very easy to set up. I instantly had it working with my laptop and netbook and the printer was set up for both of them as well. The item itself is small and well made and it looks very nice with the hidden antenna. I am very happy with my purchase.
Awesome router and amazing price12/8/2009
Very easy to setup. I've got my multifunction printer working from 4 different computers. Download the manual from Asus and it explains the process very clearly. This is a great value. The router is faster then one I had twice its price plus the built in print server is like a free bonus.
