ASUS WL-520gU 125M Broad Range EZ Wireless Router/ All-in-One Print Server - IEEE 802.11b/g and DD-WRT Open Source Support
|The new ASUS wireless router distinguishes itself with the "auto switching" function. It not only enables multiple users to use multifuntion printer wirelessly without a PC or server turned on 24 hours a day, but also rules out the trouble of repeating "disconnecting" and "re-connecting" when users switch. After plugging in the USB printer into ASUS wireless router and running the ASUS Network Printer Setup program, each user can enjoy easy scanning and easy printing.
Setting up your wireless Internet sharing router is as easy as 5 mouse clicks with ASUS. The WL-520gU integrates a simple yet thorough interface, EZ USB Multi-function printer sharing, bandwidth management and much more in a compact and simple design.
The WL-520gU also features BroadRange wireless G technology that provides 3 times the coverage area of standard wireless G routers, ensuring a good signal throughout the house. With the latest wireless encryption standards, combined with an easy to browse network map, your network is both safe and easy to control.

This router router can do a lot more if you replace the original firmware with DD-WRT, Tomato or OpenWRT: VPN, OpenVPN, NAS, BitTorrent, radio output power control, Wireless Print server, etc. It is possible to use a USB hub to connect several devices including printers. Possibilities are endless.
Works with Macintosh11/17/2010
Using this as an ethernet switch/wi-fi hot spot/printer server in the home office. All in one. We have it connected to another router, which then connects to a cable modem. Overall, a pretty basic set-up and pretty light to moderate usage. Found the directions posted here (http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/33446) to be immensely helpful in setting up our Macintosh machines. (At site, scroll down.) Working great so far... though only one week into it.
Worked really well for basic use. Do NOT use "adv10/28/2010
I've been a network engineer for nearly 20 years. So I know Asus from their long background with making motherboards, etc. So, I gave it a shot for only $35 to get a new wireless router with integrated print server to replace an aging Netgear model. I've owned this router now for pretty close to a year. Here are my impressions: - Print server works really well - STAY away from using ANY of the advanced features like QoS - they do NOT work well at all and the router will crash and lose it's entire config. And then take a LONG time to finally resync and get it's config with your cable modem. - Stability is OK ... not great ... but OK. You WILL have to end up rebooting this thing at least once a month, sometimes more. And SOMETIMES when you do this ... it will ... LOSE IT'S CONFIG ... - Asus has provided NO ADDITIONAL UPDATES AT ALL THIS YEAR. The software is OK but only half-baked and clearly this product is not a priority for them. Since I MUST have a really reliable connection, I have decided that it's time to get something with a better track record. So, I'll probably buy a Linksys and spend about twice the money. If YOUR NEEDS are very basic ... then this is probably just fine. To get b/g/n and a print server for $35 is a good deal. But don't expect Asus to "be there for you" or provide any additional support on this model. I had hoped more from Asus but I'll stick with tried and true networking vendors for my next router/firewall.
Everything worked out of the box and the set up was easy. Has been up and running for about 2 weeks and so far, no complaints.
I have gone thru a few of another brand router and each time I had to reconfigure my home network and the shared printer. I bought the Asus just for the print server feature and it is working just great! I have 4 connections and I can print anytime from any of them. I wish I had found this a long time ago! Easy set up and I love the web management layout! It's so easy even I could do it!
DD WRT GREATNESS6/17/2010
Excellent value router. Don't waste time with the default firmware, flash it to DD WRT. This router becomes 10x more capable if you do so. Standard version 13525 worked fine for me. Nevertheless I used this for my plasma tv in client bridge mode because the primary router was upstairs, and the TV downstairs. Good idea by ASUS to add lots of air vents. The LEDs are not over-bright like some other routers. It's been up now for two days, and I've had no problems. Like I said above, if you flash it to dd wrt, you will not regret buying this.
I have been using this router for a month now and it works perfect. I would recommend this to all my friends. Thanks ASUS and of course, thanks BUY.com.
I LOVE this router!11/12/2009
I have had this router for about a year now and it is Fantastic. I immediately flashed it with DD-WRT and use the USB as a print server. If you take advantage of the added functionality like Wake up on Lan, Dynamic DNS, hotspots, etc. that DD-WRT would bring, then this router is worth it's weight in GOLD! If you just want a stable router which you don't have to think about at all, then it is also a worthwhile purchase. I suggest this router to everyone because the DD-WRT tutorial/documentation is easy to follow and complete.
Works great w/ ddr-wrt12/14/2008
I don't know anything about the asus firmware except how to flash it with dd-wrt. Since I got it set up, I haven't touched it because it works great!
Asus WL-520GU wireless router3/15/2008
This router works well. I have not had drop outs or resets. Owned for about a month. I am using with 4 wired computers and two wireless ones. I am completely satisfied that I bought this router. It was easy for me to setup, but, I am a very knowledgeable about setting them up. If you take your time and have patience it is worth going through and installation drama to have a reliable and stable router. It does have an easy setup button that worked the first time. However, I went in and reconfigured most of the settings. The default url is http://192.168.1.1 with admin login and admin password. It, also, has a quick setup menu option when you connect for the first time. Answer the basics questions and its done. The only other option that I did was to change the password from the default. I did not try any Asus support except for downloading and installing the latest firmware update which went smooth. I use to have the Linksys WRK54G. I had it for about 3 months, but, could not stand the consistent drop outs and resets. And, it was replaced, but, that did not help reliablility. It was a complete waste of $20 (AR). And, Linksys support was not helpful.
