Review [Girl] With The Girl Who Knew Too Much (La Ragazza Che Sapeva Troppo), Mario Bava began the stage of his career that would come to define him as one of the masters of Italian horror cinema. Widely accepted as the first cinematic representation of the giallo in its truest sense, The Girl Who Knew Too Much augments Hitchcockian suspense with a sly satire of murder-mystery conventions, brilliant photography and a campy, light-hearted love story...In this, Bava's last black and white film, the use of light and shadow is superb, expertly put to use in order to create a sense of foreboding...The casting of 22-year-old Leticia Roman in the lead role of Nora is inspired...The Girl Who Knew Too Much is an engaging thriller and absolutely essential viewing for anyone interested in where Italian cinema's obsession with the giallo emerged from.

Review [Sunday] Funny that when movie connoisseurs think of cinema's most influential classics, they rarely remember films from the horror genre. Just look at how long it took for Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and their creator, James Whale to get a little overdue recognition! Is it really that hard to imagine a horror director like Whale or Mario Bava in the same category with Bergman, Fellini, or Cocteau? Well, maybe the new DVD release of Bava's horror masterpiece Black Sunday will help to usher the wildly inventive Italian director to his rightful place among the all-time cinema greats. This disc, from Image's ongoing Mario Bava Collection, is an absolute stunner! A DVD that belongs in every serious film lover's collection, horror fan or not...If you've never seen a Mario Bava film, this is your chance to expose yourself to one of his very best works.

Quotes
Christopher Null, FilmCritic.com [Sunday] Mario Bava's first film is gorgeously photographed and often eerie...Bava proved a real ability with the camera...
Rod Armstrong, Reel.com [Sabbath] ...vivid (almost garish) colors, over-the-top acting, and free-wheeling camera movements...astonishing.
Troy R. Howarth, DVD Maniacs [Knives] ...a sensitively detailed drama that might impress even those who don't normally care for Bava.
