Author Bio
Tim O'Brien
Tim O'Brien graduated from Macalester College in 1968 with a B.A. in political science. Drafted immediately after graduation, he was sent to Vietnam as an infantry foot soldier with the American division that was involved in the My Lai massacre a year earlier, an event which figures prominently in his book IN THE LAKE OF THE WOODS. O'Brien served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970, after which he became a graduate student at Harvard. He left Harvard, however, for a job as a newspaper reporter for The Washington Post. The success of his Vietnam memoir, IF I DIE IN A COMBAT ZONE, enabled him to write full time. Many of his books reflect his Vietnam experience, including what is perhaps his most well-known work, the brilliant, hallucinatory novel GOING AFTER CACCIATO.
