as perfect as this little thing is for my space I have to mention that the powercord is ridiculously short. it's like 2 feet long which is obviously stupid and i was just lucky enough that it was a decent length for where i wanted it. but were it not for that flaw i would rave about this thing all day long. its great. no lights no blinking, just a smooth sleek black finish
I looked at all different kinds of USB hubs, and this one was the best bang for the buck! It's powered, so it's FAST & you never have to worry about any of your devices not working from lack of power from the computer, or slowing your computer down with the power drain. It's really small and simple, and does just what you want it to. Some hubs are fancy looking...but how fancy can you get with tons of cables sticking out of it? Be practical. Mine just hides behind my monitor. I could actually use even MORE ports...but this will be just great. I'm not super technical, so I don't know how it all works, but with all my external devices plugged into the hub, and the 1 cable plugged into one of my Macbook's 2 USB ports...I was able to transfer files from my laptop to my 2TB external hard drive, and SIMULTANEOUSLY transfer files from my 500 GB external drive to the 2TB drive. Sweet!
This USB 7-port hub was truly plug and play. No problems at all. It replaced a 1.1 version which was considerably slower than this newer technology.
The shorter power cord was perfect for my situation as a longer cord would have just gotten in the way. Keep in mind your particular set up when you order.
And as usual the shipping was fast. I like dealing with Buy.com.
This product is a great value and conveniently keeps multiple USB devices connected at one time. I gave it 5s even though I did had two minor issues.
1) As mentioned in another review, the power cord is very short. I guess Belkin went from the norm of to much cord to not enough. Where I originally wanted to place the unit the power cord would not reach. I moved it to a different location with the cord stretched to its limit. I used the rear ports first for devices I would probably not move unless replacing; otherwise, I would need to shutdown and disconnect it to use those ports.
2) Occasionally, I lose the mapping to my external drive, which worked fine when directly connected.
Overall, after a little rearranging, the cord is not a big issue, but should be a purchasing consideration. The drive issue may or may not be related to the device, I should be able to resolve this shortly on way or the other.
Works pretty well. Seems to have some problem with input devices (keyboard, mouse) when Vista comes out of sleep mode. Probably a Vista thing. Power cable is a little short as noted by others. Other than that, nice and compact. Would be great with a laptop, but I use mine in a dedicated spot.
Because I needed at least 6 ports, I bought this 7-port hub, knowing that it needed an AC adaptor. It works perfectly fine, but I wish it didn't need the AC power supply: it's bulky, and because it's powered, when I shut down the computer, some accessories (like the cooling mat) stay powered up and need to be disconnected. My other, non-AC powered hubs don't require that.
Service was very fast, and the price I paid in December was great value.
I now have two of these hubs and they both work great. No problems with either of them. I have enough ports to be able to plug everything I need without having to use all the USB ports on the back of my computer. Now that everything is a USB connection this is something I would recommend getting. Great price on it too.
