Great Movie

by Audrey H. on 2/20/2008

As a child I watch the Blazing Saddles movie with my parents and have fallen in love with it. I was glad to have found it on here, at a very good deal. So now when I want a good laugh I just pop in the movie and relax.

Product Overview

Prepare yourself for a night of high-stakes hilarity and low-brow lunatics with this exclusive DVD 2-pack! Embrace your inner country western spirit with the films BLAZING SADDLES: 30TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION and BLUE COLLAR COMEDY TOUR: THE MOVIE!

BLAZING SADDLES: The railroad's got to run through the town of Rock Ridge. How do you drive out the townfolk in order to steal their land? Send in the toughest gang you've got...and name a new sheriff who'll last about 24 hours. But that's not really the plot of BLAZING SADDLES, just the pretext. Once Mel Brooks' lunatic film many call his best gets started, logic is lost in a blizzard of gags, jokes, quips, puns, howlers, growlers and outrageous assaults upon good taste or any taste at all. Cleavon Little as the new lawman, Gene Wilder as the wacko Waco Kid, Brooks himself as a dim-witted politico and Madeline Kahn in her Marlene Dietrich send-up that earned an Academy Award nomination all give this sagebrush saga their lunatic best. And when BLAZING SADDLES can't contain itself at the finale, it just proves the Old West will never be the same!

BLUE COLLAR COMEDY TOUR: Hilarious stuff here, friends and neighbors. And the laughs aren't just aimed at folks who think Caddyshack is where ma and pa park the car. 'Cause the little secret behind the #1 comedy concert of the past two years is that its topics - marriage, kids, traveling - are so universal. And so wackily warped when seen through the perspective of standout stand-ups. This concert movie captures the fellas on stage as well as during off hours. So hunker down and catch each of the comics in a solo bit. Then see them in a kind of 4-man comedy jam. Jeff Foxworthy's "redneck", Bill Engvall's "Here's Your Sign", Ron White's bad-boy tales, Larry the Cable Guy's bumpkin yarns - they're all here. And all gall-durn funny!

Review [Blue Collar] Several things are striking about these well-seasoned comedy pros. Although all are self-professed purveyors of redneck humor, they are actually quite distinct from one another in personality and style, more so than their African American counterparts of the highly successful Kings of Comedy tour and film. By the same token, the Kings of Comedy not only are more socially and politically conscious but are more outrageous and freewheeling and incite more robust laughter than do the Blue Collar guys, who in fact take pains not to perpetuate widely deplored redneck stereotypes in their comedy. They rightly avoid ethnic and racial references, and only the grimmest feminist could remotely regard them as sexist. By and large this leaves the men mainly to poke fun at themselves and to find humor in their daily lives.

Review [Blazing] There are some people who can literally get away with anything -- say anything, do anything -- and people will let them. Other people attempt a mildly dirty joke and bring total silence down on a party. Mel Brooks is not only a member of the first group, he is its lifetime president. At its best, his comedy operates in areas so far removed from taste that (to coin his own expression) it rises below vulgarity..."Blazing Saddles" is like that. It's a crazed grabbag of a movie that does everything to keep us laughing except hit us over the head with a rubber chicken. Mostly, it succeeds. It's an audience picture; it doesn't have a lot of classy polish and its structure is a total mess. But of course! What does that matter while Alex Karris is knocking a horse cold with a right cross to the jaw?...And "Blazing Saddles" is like that from beginning to end, except for a couple of slow stretches.

Review [Blazing] Thirty years after it first convulsed audiences with laughter, Mel Brooks' classic spoof Blazing Saddles comes to DVD in a special, 30th anniversary edition packed with extras. As "raw, anarchic, and insane" as Brooks describes it in his commentary track, this riotous send-up of western cliches may lag at times, but it still works as both a broad comedy and a scathingly funny attack on racism. If all you know of Blazing Saddles is the infamous campfire farting scene, then you're in for a surprise. Brooks and his team of screenwriters, which included a rising stand-up by the name of Richard Pryor, take aim and fire at racial stereotypes and prejudices with a no-holds-barred frankness unthinkable in today's politically correct culture--at least in a studio-backed movie geared towards mainstream audiences, anyway. That Brooks pulls this off while making you laugh is what separates Blazing Saddles from any of the simplistic, gross-out comedies it inspired.

At-A-Glance Film Reviews [Blazing] Little and Wilder have impeccable comic timing, delightful chemistry, and some outrageous gags.
Bill Muller, Arizona Republic [Blue Collar] ...hilarious. There's something for everyone in this movie.
Bob Ross, Tampa Tribune [Blue Collar] You don't have to be redneck to enjoy these guys. They are a hoot.
Christopher Null, [Blazing] The finale offers the most daring 15 minutes in cinema history.
John Venable, [Blazing] I can say with full confidence that this is one of the funniest movies ever made.
