Ever since he was little, Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see the spirits of the dead, so when a teenage girl materializes through his bedroom wall, this should be no call for alarm. Rukia Kuchiki is a shinigami, a member of the mysterious Soul Society that is charged with capturing rogue ghosts, and is hot on the trail of an evil spirit.

From the Publisher:
With reports of powerful intruders defeating a number of assistant captains, the inner sanctum of the Soul Society--the Seireitei, the home of the Soul Reapers--is put on a state of high alert. Matters are further compounded by the mysterious death of a prominent captain. Is his death a cover-up to prevent a valuable secret from being exposed? Meanwhile, Ichigo confronts Kenpachi Zaraki, captain of the eleventh company, and by far the most brutal fighter in the Seireitei!

About the Author:
Pen name Tite Kubo, real name Noriaki Kubo (born June 26, 1977) is a manga-ka.

Kubo started drawing manga in high school, where he was a member of his anime club. It was in high school that he originally wrote his first manga, Zombie Powder, and had 27 chapters published and compiled into four volumes. Later in his career, Kubo created a new manga, called Bleach, and submitted it to Weekly Shonen Jump in hopes of having it published. Bleach was originally rejected from Weekly Shonen Jump due to similarties to another manga being serialized in the magazine, known as YuYu Hakusho. Although Bleach did extraordinarily well when presented to a control group of readers, Kubo was disheartened by the rejection of his manga. This all changed, however, when Akira Toriyama, creator and artist of the manga Dragon Ball, sent him a letter of reassurance and inspiration. Bleach was eventually serialized by Weekly Shonen Jump, and has currently reached over two hundred chapters.
