Newbery Medalist Lowry and Caldecott Medalist Rohmann team up for this hilarious, modern classic about a resilient and quirky colony of church mice. Illustrations.
St. Bartholemew's not only has human parishioners, but also 219 religious mice in the charge of Mouse Mistress Hildegarde. Keeping the mice disciplined is a full-time job, and attempting to keep the Great X (the exterminator) from making a call requires guerilla tactics. At the same time, the mice must figure out how to contend with St. Francis's feast day, where animals are welcomed to the church to be blessed, including cats. What can the mice do? With illustrations.
Author Bio
Lois Lowry
Lois Lowry has tremendous range as a writer. She is well known for her humorous series of books about Anastasia Krupnik and her younger brother, Sam, but has also written about more serious topics, such as the Holocaust. As a result of her father's career as a U.S. Army dentist, Lois was born in Hawaii and attended junior high school in Japan. She attended Brown University but left school to get married and have children and, as a matter of fact, she had four before her 25th birthday. She eventually returned to school and graduated from the University of Maine. Her first book, A SUMMER TO DIE, was published in 1977. She won the Newbery Medal in 1990 for NUMBER THE STARS and again in 1994 for THE GIVER. A woman of many talents, Lowry's work as a photographer has appeared on the cover of some of her books. She also appeared on the television quiz show Jeopardy!

"This gently Christian piece with Rohmann's earnest pencil illustrations will please talking-animal fans." 01/15/2011

"[A] wining fable about a parish of church mice. BLESS THIS MOUSE feels like an old-timey classic." - Pamela Paul 03/13/2011
