From the Publisher:
KURT AUSTIN -- CLIVE CUSSLER'S NEW HERO FOR THE MILLENNIUM -- BATTLES TO STOP A BILLIONAIRE TYCOON FROM ACHIEVING WORLD DOMINATION BLUE GOLD An investigation into the sudden deaths of a pod of gray whales leads National Underwater & Marine Agency leader Kurt Austin to the Mexican coast, where someone tries to put him and his mini-sub permanently out of commission. Meanwhile, in South America's lush hills, a specially assigned NUMA team discovers a mysterious tribe, a mythical white goddess, and a murderous cadre of bio-pirates intent on stealing medicinal secrets worth millions. Soon, Austin and his crew realize they're working opposite ends of the same grand scheme and must race against time to save the world's freshwater supply from a twisted eco-extortionist. But every step toward salvation takes them deeper into a dense jungle of treachery, blackmail, and death. |
Annotation:
With the globe warming and environmental concerns on the tip of people's tongues, Kurt Austin and his organization NUMA (National Underwater & Marine Agency) have been getting a lot of attention. So much so that when Austin heads to Mexico to investigate why a large group of whales died out of the blue, someone tries to terminate Austin and his team, as well. Clearly Austin is getting too close to something important: a greedy individual sees in the planet's shrinking supply of fresh water a chance for wild economic profit, but this nefarious scheme is wrapped up with lies, plots of blackmail, a tribe of natives living in the wild jungles, and the theft of medicinal plants. Master storyteller Clive Cussler delivers another action-packed, globe-trotting adventure with BLUE GOLD.

Author Bio
Clive Cussler
Born in Aurora, Illinois, Cussler grew up mainly in California where he attended Pasadena City College before joining the Air Force during the Korean War. Serving as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer, Cussler eventually left the service to work in advertising as a copywriter, moving on to become creative director of some of the country's most prestigious agencies. Cussler didn't begin writing novels until he was 34, and it wasn't until eight years later in 1973 that he published a novel featuring Dirk Pitt, the hero he is most famous for creating. Since then, Cussler has gone on to write a long list of best-selling adventure novels, which have been translated into 40 languages and have been sold in over 135 countries. He has served as chairman of the National Underwater & Marine Agency, and as a fellow in the Explorers Club of New York, the Royal Geographic Society in London, and the American Society of Oceanographers. Cussler is married to Barbara Knight, with whom he has had three children. He spends much of his time on his favorite hobby, tending to his sizable collection of rare and classic cars.
