Few series on television have the total package that "Breaking Bad" has. The premise - a chemistry teacher with terminal lung cancer turns to making meth so he can leave something behind for his struggling family - is ingenious. The writing is among the very elite in television.The acting is superb: Star Bryan Cranston has won back-to-back Emmys for lead actor, and Aaron Paul should be holding his own statue as well. The cinematography is stunning (the series is shot on location in Albuquerque). And the minimalist use of sound, a restraint rare in the industry, heightens the dramatic tension...it's easy to overlook how many visually arresting scenes and shots pop up in each episode. And, for that matter, the dialed-down, ambient sound that goes with them...This is a series that has gone to greatness as fast as any of television's truly excellent offerings. It's also one of the most daring exercises in creative storytelling that anyone has attempted. What creator Vince Gilligan has put in motion should be seen by all adventurous viewers. - Tim Goodman
