Following the colossal battle against the Empire''s warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep. When unrest claims the rebels and danger strikes from every corner, Eragon must make choices that may lead to unimagined sacrifice.
From the Publisher:
With the battle against the Emperor's warriors over, Eragon must remain true to his oath to save his cousin's love, Katrina, from the hands of King Galbatorix, but when the Varden makes a desperate plea for his help at the same time, Eragon must make a challenging decision that could affect the lives of many in the Empire and beyond. 2,500,000 first printing.
Annotation:
War, love, and a strenuous battle of good versus evil are in store for Christopher Paolini fans in his third title of the Inheritance series. The boy dragon rider, Eragon, and his constant companion, the dragon Saphira, are torn by many loyalties, with the weight of the world on their shoulders. They must find a way to save Roran's beloved from the evil Ra'zac, and also help the Varden, the elves, and the dwarves in the gristly battle against King Galbatorix. Seemingly overwhelmed by their gargantuan tasks, Eragon and Saphira are forced to find a way to save the world, or all is lost. Both lauded and criticized as derivative of classic works by J.R.R. Tolkien, Ursula K. LeGuin, and J.K. Rowling, Paolini's work is nevertheless phenomenally successful. BRISINGR sold over half a million copies on its first day out, and will be followed by a fourth, hotly awaited book. The first books in the series are ERAGON, written when Paolini was just 15, and ELDEST.
Author Bio
Christopher Paolini
Home-schooled by his parents, Christopher Paolini was 15 years old when he began writing ERAGON, a project he began to entertain himself and which eventually become his first published novel. Inspired by such diverse works as "Beowulf" and Bruce Coville's fantasy story JEREMY THATCHER, DRAGON HATCHER, Paolini's novel tells of a poor peasant boy named Eragon who discovers he is a descendent of the Riders, a band of dragon-riding warriors. Many of the characters in ERAGON speak in languages created by Paolini (with the help of his younger sister, Angela) and which were inspired by Old Norse languages. Originally self-published, ERAGON was brought to the attention of publishing company Alfred A. Knopf by author Carl Hiaasen, who was impressed with his stepson's enthusiastic reading of the book. The book was made into a film in 2006.
