Had the drive for only a few monts Already drive failures Horrible support, not to mention that you have to wait for at least one hour (after many calls giving up after 1/2 hour) THis is the second nas device I buy from this guys that fails ASAP. WIll never buy from the again (bufallo)
Don't waste your time!3/22/2011
Device works, but access from web is slow and sporadic. I experienced difficulties with the web failing after a few days. Contacted tech support and when I said I had a Airport Extreme they said I should go buy another router and plug it into the airport. He says their product doesn't play well with MAC and wanted to know why I would use MAC stuff anyway. He suggested I should just return the Buffalo. Contacted buy.com and since I was 52 days out, they would allow return of the item. Never again to Buffalo OR BUY.COM
It works great. It never crashed, works great with dyndns.org service. Just remember that name of the server will be nas name when seting up iphone access.
Very nice unit3/4/2011
The Linkstation is a very decent network storage device. Previous reviewers indicated is was speedy. I discovered the same thing when transferring a huge directory from the server to the Linkstation. I was very pleased with the performance. The web interface is a bit slow. It doesn't respond immediately when you choose a link. Some other issues are that the integration with Active Directory could be better and the way you set up an external drive to use for backups is less than user friendly. It threw errors that gave me no clue as to the real problem. I finally found out that the external drive must be formatted a certain way in order to be used, it can't be NTFS. I chose EXT3 and it now works great. Managing the access rights to the folders was also not as easy as you might like and you don't have the same rights options you do when setting those rights in Windows. Overall the unit works very well and, for the price, is an excellent choice for a small non-enterprise network storage device.
