Suburban Society Under The Microscope
This is perhaps Tom Hanks' least critically lauded film over the last ten years. Nevertheless, fans of Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, and Corey Feldman (if any exist out there) may be suprised by this film. The cinematography really is enjoyable as is the John Hugheseque style humor. The film tells the story of five homes, and their occupants, who live on a street in suburbia. Hanks and and his two neighbors become convinced that the new neighbors on the block are killers and the three spend a weekend trying to find evidence of their neighbors' guilt. The film contains a great deal of slapstick comedy which is greatly amusing at points. However the most enjoyable portions of the film come in the conversations between the three neighbors. Much truth about suburban society and gossip lies in these interactions and careful consideration shows that this film has much more to offer beyond the comedic bits.
