"New York Times"-bestselling author Grisham delivers a surprising and moving novel of fathers and sons, forgiveness and redemption, set in the world of Major League Baseball.
From the Publisher:
At long last, America’s favorite storyteller takes on America’s favorite pastime.

In this surprising and moving novel, the careers of a golden-boy rookie hitter for the Cubs and a hard-hitting Mets pitcher take very different paths. The baseball is thrilling, but it’s what happens off the field that makes Calico Joe a classic.

From the Hardcover edition.
Annotation:
The author of scores of best-selling legal thrillers, John Grisham offers readers a very different kind of read with CALICO JOE. Here, the only law in question is the that of the baseball field, and the drama driving the narrative is between a father and a son. Joe Castle was a promising young player on a Texas AA team when a series of major-league injuries catapulted him into the spotlight. Starting with the Chicago Cubs, he soon became one of the most beloved players in the sport. Even Paul Tracey, whose father is the hard-living pitcher for the New York Mets, has deep respect for Joe. The tension between a father and a son and the on-field competition of major league sports collide in Grisham's moving novel.
Author Bio
John Grisham
John Grisham woke up at 5:00 every morning for three years to complete his first novel, A TIME TO KILL. Working as a lawyer and a member of Mississippi's state legislature, Grisham published his debut thriller with a small and somewhat unknown publisher, receiving only local readership in his home state. He finally burst on to the national scene with his second novel, THE FIRM, a legal thriller that sold millions of copies and stayed on the New York Times best-seller list for 47 weeks. Shortly afterward, Grisham moved to Oxford, Mississippi, where he began working on a series of new legal thrillers, including THE PELICAN BRIEF and THE CLIENT, all of which became bestsellers and were subsequently made into successful films. Having graduated from the University of Mississippi in Oxford with a law degree in 1981, Grisham went on to base his popular thrillers on his experience as a specialist in criminal defense. His once-unknown debut, A TIME TO KILL, was made into a major motion picture in 1996.
