Customer Reviews of Canon PIXMA iP3500 Inkjet Photo Printer (47 sec, 4800 x 1200 color dpi, 4" x 6", USB)
I purchased this for my girls in college. The have nothing but good things to say. Pictures or documents - great!
Nice printer for the price4/7/2008
I had a Epson R220 printer. It was time for new ink and after having all the old cartriges stacking up(since no one will take them in for credit ie Staples or Office Depot), I started to look for a new printer instead. It had to be fast, and the ink refills had be comparable to the epson costs. After looking at the Epson c120 and the Canon pixma 4500, I decided on this unit, because of the single black cartridge not the dual like in the 4500. And I decided against the Epson because the ink was a little more expesive and the c120 is kinda loud once it starts printing. I have been happy with the results and speed. The one thing that is not really talked about any where is the fact the Canons have a separate print head unit, and I don't know the expected longevity before having to replace them. The nice thing about the epsons are the print heads are in each ink cartridge... maybe that is why they are a little more expensive and noone takes them as trade in's. I only gave the ease of use a 3 because the software involved with new installation took about 5-8 minutes on an older AMD athlon system. I thought it would just be a driver, and that would be it...oh well, live and learn. I would possible get a newer on in a year or 2 if the print heads hold up. Only time will tell. Right now it is very good.
Bad out of the box2/3/2008
I hooked this printer up for the first time and it refused to print. It has some kind of paper loading issue and it needs factory service. I have since found numerous owners online who have had all sorts of problems with this printer. I would avoid this printer at all costs. It is not worth your time or money to have problems "out of the box".
Though this printer does not have all the bells and whistles such as an preview screen, it is exactly what I have been looking for: a printer that does not suck ink and when it is out of ink does not cost a lot to replace cartidges (less than $50.00 for all four cartriges.) I like that it has four cartridges and a seperate black. I would recommend.
