Good, but a bit too fancy9/13/2010
upgrading from the Pixma 3000, this is more printer than I need, but it works well. I don't need the 5th ink tank, and don't need digital lights on the ink tanks ( are they kidding? ), and each ink tank is smaller, and of course more expensive. I wish someone would sell a printer for what it actually costs, with re-fillable ink tanks, and stop selling cartridges. This is extremely wasteful.
Good printer - but not without its problems2/3/2010
When this printer works, it produces amazing photographic prints, 2-sided printing and fast (read selectable draft-quality) output which really saves on ink consumption. The price of the cartridges is really the only drawback (for most users) of this exceptional inkjet photo printer. CAVEAT - OWNERS OF MAC POWERPC PROCESSORS BEWARE! I own a PowerMac Dual Quicksilver 2002 with two boot drives. The Panther drive (10.3.9) runs the printer flawlessly. The Tiger drive (10.4.11) will not print with the 7.21 driver last updated in July of '09. If you go the Canon website and click on the link in support to download this driver you will also read that there are problems with the Leopard OS (ostensibly the PPC version, although this is not clarified). After jumping through all the hoops with tech support they admitted that there is a problem but gave no indication of any intention to fix it. Six months later nothing has changed. So... One more positive note - comes with a five cartridges - 3 colors and 2 blacks (one for printing photos and one for text) Setup program failed completely and documentation is confusing and I'm an expert! Use the CANON wesite for downloads if necessary. Would I recommend this printer? Yes, just not to PPC users of Tiger or Leopard.
Aside from extensive installation...12/10/2009
I can categorically say this was the most extensive printer installation I have ever come across (currently have 10 other printers in operation in house). I was grinding my teeth a few times at how much time it was taking, but it was worth it. Like all the other Canon printers I have purchased over the years, it does a great job. This printer is only meant for printing, so no scanning, copying, etc... But this is why I purchased it. At $40, it was too good a deal to pass up (which is why I bought two!). So set aside plenty of time to install, but then enjoy the great photos that will come from this printer.
