What's in the Box:
Canon VIXIA HF100. Let's start with value - this camcorder seems extremely reasonable for providing current SDHC technology into the palm of your hand (literally). . Performance - I'm still a little concerned about use inside, or in low light situations - The color seems a little lacking. Other than that, outside sunny days - Outstanding! Battery life is a little week (a little less than an hour) on the highest quality setting - there is a larger battery, but I haven't justified to spring for it yet. The software it comes with downloads video int a .m2ts format - which is the newest format. This is great - however, there is very little software that reads it - or able to convert it without losing much quality. Let me rephrase that, there is good software out there, but I don't want to spend half the cost of the camera to buy it (Vegas Pro 8.0). I did try a sofware called iSkysoft video converter - this worked okay, but crashed numerous times on my computer so, I'm still looking for better options. Ease of use - if you are handy with any electronics item, this seems to be the easiest I've used in a long time. I wish there were shortcut buttons you could set for those things you'd like to change regularly like video quality - but there aren't. Overall, this camera seems like a good purchase (with a new baby on the way). There are plenty of good accessories available and quality seems to be there.
