Bestselling thriller superstar Deaver--author of such international hits as "Roadside Crosses, The Bodies Left Behind," and "The Bone Collector"--delivers the newest installment of the James Bond series, updated for the new millennium.
From the Publisher:
A James Bond thriller set in the present day finds the iconic British spy engaging a horrific modern villain in a cat-and-mouse chase that takes him from the Balkans and London to the African Continent.
Jeffrey Deaver, the chart-topping author of thrillers such as THE BROKEN WINDOW and THE BONE COLLECTOR, has now become a double agent. The captivating and exciting CARTE BLANCHE represents Deaver's foray into the world of the spy novel, and he jumps right in, recasting the most famous spy of all time: James Bond. Set in the 21st-century, a time wracked by terrorism, extremists, and high-tech government surveillance, this 007 adventure sends the agent (who would have been born in the 1980s) across the globe--from England to South Africa to the Baltics.
Author Bio
Jeffery Deaver
Jeffery Wilds Deaver was born and raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Missouri and received a law degree from Fordham University. A self-described "terrible attorney," Deaver quit the law in 1990 to pursue a full-time writing career based on his fascination with and love of suspense. "When I teach courses in writing," Deaver said in a interview, "I always tell my students to write what you enjoy reading and I have always been a big fan of the sort of book I write--the plot-driven commercial thriller." Deaver's modus operandi has proven lucrative since his first book was published in the early 1990s. Several of his books have achieved best-seller status and two--THE BONE COLLECTOR (1997) and A MAIDEN'S GRAVE (1995)--have been adapted for film. Deaver's sister, Julie Reece Deaver, is an author of young adult books.

"Bond in 2011 still drives a Bentley, wears a Rolex, and waves a Walther, but his shades are hip and technical: he sports Oakleys." - Steven Poole 05/26/2011
