Expert Review Case 39 - Blu-Ray DVD Review

Case 39 is a horror film starring Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper. The movie made its way to U.S. theaters in fall of 2010 after more than two years of delays. I'll say up front that while the movie has been thoroughly trashed by many critics and filmgoers, I found it to be quite entertaining. The story focuses on a social worker who investigates a possible case of child abuse. In order to fully delve into the plot, some spoilers must be revealed from this point onward, so consider yourself the full review

Professional Reviews

"[I]ts mood is somewhat enhanced by the eerie, Gothic-style homes and interiors of production designer John Willet." 09/29/2010

"[T]here is enough lurid, ludicrous subtext in the material to keep fans of such things happy." 10/01/2010

The New York Times 5 of 10
...Case 39 forgoes screeching, nonstop effects to allow us to notice smaller things--like the way a conversation between a child and an adult can shift from innocent to threatening in the blink of a cold, satanic eye. - Jeannette Catsoulis
