The Cavalry Dock is perhaps the easiest and most cost-effective way to consolidate the storage of any two hard drives. This two-bay, hot-swappable USB 2.0 dock is perfect for lumping together your odd-capacity drives into one Spanning device, just insert any two 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives. Your PC will read the drives as one large drive with combined capacity of the two drives you installed. Once connect to you PC's USB port, with the flip of a switch, the Cavalry Dock will automatically copy the contents of one drive to another. Or you can have an external hard drive with an exact duplicate of the contents on a second drive. And the BIG/JBOD/RAID 1 settings are easy to change as well just use the switch on the back of the dock.
Customer Reviews of Cavalry EN-CAHDD2B-D Two-Bay Hard Drive Cradle - USB - Black
I've had this product for one year. Working great. No problems to report. I highly recommended this buy
Flimsy, feels like it's going to fall apart. It works well as intended.
Works as described5/9/2012
Good unit that does exactly what it's supposed to.
Data recovery life saver1/8/2011
When the wife's computer went into a perpetual reboot cycle and all recovery attempts failed, I bought this docking station, popped the hard drive into it and simply copied over all of the important files that had not recently been backed up over to a different hard drive. All is well - money well spent!
Great item, but not all drives compatible1/4/2011
This unit has worked great with all of my Seagate drives. However, I have found one (new) WD 2TB drive that it will not recognize at all. Be a little careful if you have WD drives as some may not work. For compatible drives it works great and I have drive sets configured as JBOD and other sets as RAID and working flawlessly. After buying I did find out some competitive products now have eSATA and USB3 as faster options than the USB2 limitation of this unit.
works as advertised12/29/2010
Thought it was a little hard to get going but then figured out there was a problem with the drive I was using!. Works fine.
Effective & Affordable12/21/2010
This dual-bay drive holder has been great for hot-swapping extra space for my media PC. The set-up instructions are not too clear, but can quickly can be deciphered. Great value buy for those out of drive space in their enclosures.
Best option for external storage12/18/2010
The setup and functionality is a no-brainer and I have used disks upto 2TB. Has worked flawlessly. Great buy, especially when there was a rebate for it.
Awesome product! Totally recommend12/18/2010
I've got two of these I use in JBOD and they're great. I keep one attached to the computer for looking at loose hardrives, consolidating files, formatting, etc. I use the other as additional storage on a media tank. Automatically appears as two different drive letters. Will probably get another for backing up important data using its RAID mode (first inserted drive becomes MASTER last inserted drive becomes SLAVE). Beefy non-wallwart switcher power supply handles two 7200RPM drives effortlessly. Great value and the chipset passes all drive info data to most apps instead of just showing up as "USB DRIVE" which makes difficult to know which drive you're looking at until you access it's content.
Works like a charm11/16/2010
Set the jumpers, inserted HDDs, power up and it worked flawlessly. I had a few old HDDs sitting in my drawer doing nothing. With this product, I was able to view the contents of those drives. Repartitioned drives and formatted very easily. Now I have all the space I need.
Great way to ptu data on10/23/2010
this is a great item, no longer having to put hard drives in systems or hook it up to hard drive case, just slot it in and away you go. just love that it takes 3.5 and 2.5 drives and a simple push down and it is connected. if you need to store Data, music, movies or even set up yor computer, a great way to do this.....Highly recommended item.
A great solution for personal backup10/16/2010
This product is a dream come true. It is configurable as raid0 or raid1, or JBOD. You pop a couple of drives into it, and in moments you have a mirrored external drive subsystem, perfect for Time Machine on an Apple Mac, or any use as an external drive or backup solution. My only criticism is that the drives get hot, and an external fan, even a small one, can keep the drives at a reasonable temperature. Otherwise I think these are great, I own a few of them.
It's better than expected and the previous reviews10/14/2010
The complete test has not been done on this item due to the one bad 2 TB HD out of two that has significant issue with IO error, So only one 2TB HD has been on this device so far. On 64 bit win 7.0 Ultimate pc, somehow, it might be driver compatibility issue but it did not work properly. It either disappears from the pc or gets jammed up so you have to reset the device after running short period of time. However, luckily, it become stable & works fine after switching over to Win Pro 32 bit pc. Unlike other reviews, it has run steady over 2 wks without getting overheated and downgrade in transfer rate. Overall, I’m not unhappy with the price after the rebate and the performance level however, I need to wait to see its performance once I stick both of 2 TB HD into this device.
S/N on box different from S/N on device10/6/2010
I was filling out a $20 mail in rebate for this item. The rebate web site rejected my registration saying that I entered an invalid S/N. Tried to enter the S/N # on the box with the UPC code 4 times. NG. Finally, I looked at the bottom of the unit. #$%@? It has a different S/N. How do I file and submit the MIR? Other than that, the unit works fine. Just runs hot. I placed a small fan next to it to keep the two drives cool.
Very Simple to Use Two-Bay Hard Drive Cradle10/4/2010
Thankfully the open HD cradle is very easy to use, because the instructions were very limited. They could have provided better instructions. The quality seems okay, but it would've been nice to have an enclosure to cover the drives. The HD's sit naked and exposed to the elements. The power, USB and Fire wires were included.
This dock looks great and I was looking forward to hooking it up. Unfortunately it is picky about which drives it will run. A laptop Seagate drive and an old Maxtor 160GB desktop drive run, but a newer WD 640GB Blue desktop drive will not spin up. Not recognized at all. I connected it internally to a computer to make sure it's good. It's very disappointing that it won't run some modern SATA HDs.
Easy additional storage.8/21/2010
Bought this cradle because I had run out of room for additional drives in my server. Inserted a pair of 500GB SATA2 drives and turned it on. Windows server recognized the drives and automatically balanced the storage load. Didn't even have to open the case. The only thing that would make it better would be programmable power on / off.
Won't run 2 drives6/16/2010
While "plug and play" is quite painless, it seems I can only use one bay. I have two 1TB drives and either works fine by itself in either bay - but if I put both drives in, the USB port resets itself every 1-2 minutes - just like you pulled the cable and plugged it back in. Not what I wanted or paid for, but does seem to work fine with a single drive. Yes, it does get hot but I doubt any hotter than inside a PC cabinet.
Great for Transfers6/16/2010
I bought this dock so that I could transfer the data from my old hard drives over to my new computer and this dock works great for that. It does get pretty hot if you leave it on for long periods of time and as such I would not use it as an additional full time external drive. All that you really need to do if you want to use it intermittently though is select safely remove, like taking off a USB thumb drive, and then turn it off. You do not have to unplug anything.
Service kit not for common usage.4/28/2010
I installed two old SATA hard drives (160-250GB) and Windows recognized them easily. However, the hard drives never stop spinning and turns very hot after a while, so I have to safely remove the USB drive, pull out the cable, and then power down the dock. A heck of trouble. The customer support said that the dock is designed (just) to run the drives and the drives will become hot, up to 160 degrees F, and that you could just turn of the dock. So if you are looking for a backup or service hard drive module I think it works easily, but for constant usage it is probably not good.
