In this lively alphabet rhyme, all the letters of the alphabet race each other up the coconut tree. Will there be enough room? Oh, no--Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! The well-known authors of "Barn Dance" and "Knots on a Counting Rope" have created a rhythmic alphabet chant that rolls along on waves of fun. Full color.
From the Publisher:
The complete edition of the bestselling children's favorite, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, is now available as a Classic Board Book!

A told B

and B told C,

?I'll meet you at the top

of the coconut tree.?

When all the letters of the alphabet race one another up the coconut tree, will there be enough room?

Of course there is always enough room for this rollicking alphabet chant that has been a children's favorite for more than twenty years! Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault's rhythmic text keeps the beat with Caldecott Honor illustrator Lois Ehlert's bold, cheerful art. This winning combination has created a series of enduring Chicka Chicka favorites, and now, for the first time ever, the complete edition of the original Chicka Chicka Boom Boom story is available as a Classic Board Book. With sturdy pages and rounded corners, this portable edition of an irresistible alphabet romp will delight a new generation of young readers.

Bright, bold, and rhythmic, CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM is an imaginative and fun introduction to the letters of the alphabet. Like excited children, the lowercase letters of the alphabet engage in a daring race to the very top of the coconut tree. All seems to be going well, but once the entire alphabet has made the climb, their collective weight proves to be too much for the skinny tree and so it bends, causing all the letters to fall out of the tree. Chaos ensues--the "d" has a skinned knee, the "j" and "k" are near tears, and the "p" has a black eye--but, with the help of the more adult uppercase letters, all is eventually settled and the letters drift off to sleep as the moon rises behind the coconut tree. However, just as the story is about to end, little "a" attempts to goad the other letters into yet another race. Although the illustrations showcase lowercase letters, readers will also be introduced to the uppercase, as the text uses them and the endpapers features both the upper- and lowercase alphabet. Colorful illustrations featuring tropical greens, bold oranges, and bright pinks accompany the lively text.

Ehlert started illustrating books for children early in her career but, unhappy with their final production quality, she stopped and focused on graphic design work. Ehlert returned to the world of children's book illustration only after she felt that publishers had begun to pay more attention to design and production. Her book COLOR ZOO was named a Caldecott Honor Book in 1990.
