Product Overview

The Grammy Award-winning, 12-voice male choral ensemble Chanticleer returns to one of their favorite idioms: Christmas music. With special guest Dawn Upshaw, this all-new program includes daring, provocative renditions of holiday favorites from England, Wales, France, Germany and Spain. Philip Wilder, Chanticleer's artistic administrator (and one of the group's countertenors) declares "Recording with Dawn Upshaw was a dream come true for all of us. It felt as if we'd been singing together for 20 years! She blended so perfectly with us that at times she sounded like another voice of Chanticleer. Then, suddenly, she would soar above us and the sound was just magical." Ms. Upshaw was equally inspired by the special chemistry she shared with Chanticleer while making the recording: "I felt totally relaxed making music with Chanticleer. Not only are they a lovely group of people, but singing within a choral structure is so different than solo singing. I remember from my time as a student the experience of getting goose-bumps in chorus; that was happening all the time in these recording sessions." With songs and carols drawn from many lands and traditions--from the traditional English "Coventry Carol" to a modern work by Sir John Tavener, from a Spanish carol to a rousing American spiritual--Christmas With Chanticleer Featuring Special Guest Dawn Upshaw showcases Chanticleer's love of musical diversity. Chanticleer's devoted followers have waited six years since the 1995 Sing We Christmas best seller (scanned over 50,000) for a new Christmas disc--and they won't be disappointed with Christmas With Chanticleer....
