Editor's Note
This award-winning documentary was made by high-school students who wanted to know more about one of their alums, Sergeant Ted Tanouye, a man of Japanese heritage who joined the U.S. Army to fight in World War II. Because of their ethnic background, Tanouye's family was imprisoned in an internment camp while he was abroad, valiantly fighting along with the rest of America's soldiers. CITIZEN TANOUYE tells his story as well as the academic journey of these high school students who uncovered the history of the era and arrived at some fascinating revelations about their own lives and identities.
