On The Avenue:
A "tuneful" (Variety) romantic musical that pits a New York socialite family against a Broadway producer. When Gary Blake's (Dick Powell) new show starring Mona Merrick (Alice Faye) premieres, it angers socialite Mimi Carraway (Madeleine Carroll). But Mimi's bitterness turns to affection when she falls for Gary. Meanwhile, Mona makes a play for Gary by sabotaging the production. A feud erupts and the gossip column are a-buzz until Mimi's Aunt Fritz (Cora Witherspoon) steps in to help make things right again.
Pin Up Girl:
Famed World War II pin-up girl Betty Grable stars as Lorry, the most popular girl at the USO in a small Midwestern town. En route to a new job in Washington D.C., Lorry, a secretary, takes a detour to New York, where she and a friend crash a ritzy nightclub, and Lorry pretends to be a Broadway star. This provides a backdrop for lavish production numbers, with Grable in gorgeous gowns showing her glorious gems. Comic actors Martha Raye and Joe E. Brown fill out the cast, joined by the swing orchestra of Charlie Spivak and the Stardusters singing group.
Something for the Boys:
Carmen Miranda joins Vivian Blaine and Phil Silvers in this energized musical comedy. "T" is for trouble when three cousins - Blossom (Blaine), Chiquita (Miranda) and Harry (Silvers) Hart inherit a Texas plantation. Realizing their property is plagued by overdue taxes and under-fed termites, the Harts are thrilled when an army sergeant (Michael O'Shea) offers to convert the place into a home for army wives. So, in the meantime, the Harts put on a show to raise money for Uncle Sam! Filled with love, laughs and some of Cole Porter's most beloved songs, including "Hey, Good Lookin'" and "Could It Be You?", there's something for everyone in Something For The Boys!
You're In the Navy Now:
Oscar-nominated director Henry Hathaway enlisted an all-star cast, headed by Gary Cooper in a "smash performance" (The Hollywood Reporter). A hilarious, critically acclaimed comedy, which also features memorable performances by Jane Greer, Eddie Albert and Jack Webb. Based on the Navy's real-life experiment with a steam engine in a WWII submarine chaser, the film follows the misadventures of the ill-prepared crew of a ship on trial runs. Led by a captain (Cooper) who is as inexperienced as his officers - they don't call them the "90-day wonders" for nothing! - they sail out to sea on an unforgettable journey. They'll either sink or swim...but they'll make history either way!
