| Artist: Frank Sinatra |
Song Listing
| This album compiles the singer's most admired songs, "the definitive versions" -- from his critically acclaimed Capitol 'concept' record period -- onto one disc for the next century of listeners. All tracks are 24-bit digitally remastered. Classic Sinatra will also feature rare photos and quotes from materials previously written about the singer including a tribute from Bruce Springsteen. Classic Sinatra opens with one of his best-known songs, "I’ve Got The World On A String," from his first Capitol Records release, This Is Sinatra, in 1953 and continues with some of his most famous and well-liked songs from a dozen albums he recorded for the label during the decade. Included are such favorites as "I Get A Kick Out Of You," "My Funny Valentine," "Young At Heart," "In the Wee Small Hours," "I’ve Got You Under My Skin," "Night and Day," "The Lady Is A Tramp," "Come Fly With Me," "One For My Baby" and "Come Dance With Me." The last track netted Sinatra two of his six Grammy Awards. Come Dance With Me was named Album of the Year at the Second Annual Grammy Awards in 1959. He also won Best Vocal Performance, Male. Classic Sinatra also contains the Oscar winning title track from his 1957 album All The Way. He also performed the Sammy Cahn/Jimmy Van Heusen love song in the film The Joker Is Wild. With a singing career that spanned seven decades, Frank Sinatra was truly the "Entertainer of the Century." Also known as "Ol’ Blue Eyes," "The Chairman of the Board" and "The Voice," he racked up 26 gold albums, one gold single, eight platinum albums including three that went multi-platinum, and two gold and platinum videos. He also made 50 films and won two Academy Awards, starred in his own TV show and numerous specials and played thousands of tour dates all over the world. His seven consecutive years on Capitol Records in the 1950s proved to be one of the most successful associations the recording industry has ever seen. |

| Sinatra's years on the Capitol label (1953-60) were great years. His voice had matured into a powerful and poignant instrument; his sense of swing was infallible; and he was blessed with an innovative and sophisticated arranger, Nelson Riddle, whose charts fit Sinatra like a beautiful suit. | |
| This one-disc compilation of 20 songs includes many classics: "I've Got You Under My Skin," "You Make Me Feel So Young," "The Lady Is a Tramp," In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning," and "One For My Baby (And One More For the Road)." The packaging is attractive (with some great photos of Sinatra) and the digital re-mastering was done right. | |
| Also included are updated versions of songs Sinatra sang in his earlier years ("Oh! Look At Me Now," and "Night and Day"). While this CD is not all-inclusive--some of the more melancholy songs of these years are omitted--it's a collection that can be listened to again and again. | |
