Album Notes and Credits
Percy Faith's arranging style is a natural match for George Gershwin's melodic sense. Although the composer's jazz-influenced style seems at first to be ill-suited for Faith's easy listening treatment, both men were influenced to different degrees by the same Romantic composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Interestingly, however, Faith ignores such classically-structured pieces as "Rhapsody In Blue" in favor of Gershwin's pop songs written with his brother Ira, including a good-sized chunk of their opera PORGY AND BESS. Highlights include a gently swaying "Summertime" and the atypically upbeat-Faith tended to the slow and stately in his tempos-"Fascinatin' Rhythm."
