Author Info
Michael Azerrad
The author of perhaps the most authoritative biography on seminal 1990s grunge pioneers Nirvana, 1993's COME AS YOU ARE, as well as of a comprehensive, detail-packed overview of the most influential post-punk bands of the 1980s, OUR BAND COULD BE YOUR LIFE, rock music writer and musician Michael Azerrad was born in Westchester, New York in 1960. An early exposure to the Beatles via their SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND album sparked Azerrad's affinity for music, which continued throughout a brief sojourn to California in his teens and his attendance at New York's Columbia College, where he gained a degree in Latin. On graduating, he parlayed a record review submitted to and accepted by Rolling Stone magazine into a successful career in music journalism. In addition to Rolling Stone, Azerrad has written for Spin, MTV News, and a variety of other music-related publications.
Praise
"[A] beautiful tale....[W]ritten brilliantly....So much intricate detail is crammed into the pages of this book that it feels like you're reading a personal journal of all three band members."
From the Publisher
Annotation This illustrated biography of grunge band Nirvana explores the band's role in Seattle, from 1985--when Kurt Cobain and Chris Novoselic met and began to jam--up until 1993, the year before Cobain's shocking death. Complete with interviews with Kurt Cobain, Chris Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, it offers fans the band members' perspectives on themselves and on the heroin scandals that surrounded them. A final chapter on the last year of Kurt Cobain's life has been included in this updated version.
